Future 09 TSX question...

Has anyone heard if the 09 TSX will be assembled in Japan like the current TSX?

A bit of a history lesson:

The first gen TL (1996-1998) was assembled in Japan. Then, starting in 1999 the 2nd gen TL and current 3rd gen TL, the assembly was moved to Marysville, OH.

Maybe history will repeat itself.

I wonder if the new US/Canadian TSX will be the new Honda in Europe, Asia, and Australia.

Maybe the new TSX will be unique to the North American market like the TL and RDX. If the new TSX is unique to North America, it will more than likely be built in the USA like the TL.

Are these the same assembly locations for the Accord? Once the Accord assembly moved to the US, I would think it would have made sense that the TL assembly would also be there.

As long as the US TSX is based on it's European and Japanese versions, I'd expect assembly to remain overseas.

Apart from the above, another consideration would be the volume of sales...TL sales make $$$ sense in manufacturing it here as it US only + high volume.... If TSX has high volumes then it may be manufactured, or else it may continue to be made overseas as the component are iedntical to Euro Accord...

My bet is it will continue to be made abroad...

Since the Sports4 concept has been shown worldwide, and unveiled in Japan iirc, I would bet it will still be manufactured in Japan and used as a worldwide platform, much like the current world accord / us tsx. Its doubtful to me that the new TSX will be a US-only production.

Question - are their any current US Acura's which aren't based on an existing Honda (US or overseas version) vehicle? The US Accord is obviously a well made vehicle, so it's a solid base to 'modify' into an Acura TL. Same with the TSX - I'm sure the Euro and JDM Accord are excellent vehicles.

I'd certainly have some concerns buying an 09 TSX if the US was the only place it was manufactured.

The only two vehicles I know of that are for the North American market are the TL and RDX. The (previous gen) MDX and RL are sold under the Honda label in Japan.

Maybe our European and Australian members can let us know if any versions of the TL, RDX or MDX are being sold there.

Both North American Accord and Acura TSX are sold in Japan side-by-side with the Honda label. I’m willing to bet the North American TSX will be the European/Australian accord and it will still be assembled in Japan for all markets.

Don't forget in 2009, Japan will have Acura! So therefore, it's next to impossible that the new TSX and Japanese Accord share the same look.

Unless Acura Japan only get the TL and RL, and no TSX...

Made in Japan would be a logical conclusion in 09.
