Fuel Light --- How much left

I tried a search but didnt find anything. When your gas light goes on, have you pushed it? How far?

I have never put more than 55L (14.5 G) of fuel in my car even with the needle below empty. So there's always been 10L (2.5 G) of fuel in my car. At least theoretically.

i've driven an additiona 60 miles after my fuel light has come on...there was another thread about this...bottom line is the TSX fuel light is extra sensitive and seems to come on way too early...i guess it's a good thing, never have to call their TLC for roadside assistance

In my experience it comes on when you've gone through 13 gallons of fuel..so you should have another 4.5 in reserve.

when the fuel light comes up, i could only feed in max of 12gal of gas, and the fuel tank capacity of the tsx is 17 gal, so i'd say when the light comes up you'd still have max of 5 gal in reserve. this is an approx, so dont wait when u see the light come up, that means ur baby t is hungry and need some premium milk.

I ran mine down enough so the tank took 14.9gal. The needle was already in the red when I filled.

I has to be more than that. I have put 17.2 gallons in it. But that little light does turn on really early.

I like to push it to the limit. Not really, I'm just too lazy to put gas.

Also, that gas gauge is crazy. I was driving last weekend and when i turned the car off, it was exactly at the center mark. When i turned on the car the next day, the line went down like 1/2 a centimeter.

Capacity is supposed to be 17.5 gallons.

Ortiz: how long did you drive with the light on to get it that low??? The most i've ever put in was like 14.x and I thought i was pushing it.

I have hit 17.x on many occasions. It is a gift.

its actually really bad for your car if you let your gas get even close to the E ( Empty ) cause then your letting all the dirt and crud into your engine and also clogs your fuel injectors, which arent cheap to replace

I dont know about you all, but I ran my TSX out of gas one day. I ended up stranded by the side of the road. When I did fill it up about 15.5-16 gallons went in.

pretty much i ran out of gas about 10 miles after the trip computer said zero.

needless to say, I trust the computer a lot now.....

I don't think I have ever put in less than 15.5 gallons on a fillup.

About the injectors. I thought that was what the fuel filter was for.

When I fill er up without topping off (which I never do), the nav's debug system says I have 16.0-16.2 gallons in the tank.

IME, the nav's range estimator is about right when the tank is down to a few gallons, assuming that the tank level reading is accurate.

I dissagree. When the trip computer gets to "--" I have at least 60 miles left.

The indicator comes on when you used around 12 gallons (give or take .5), at least from my experience.

It is. Your fuel pump is what you should be worried about

Not all of us are blessed with navi

Us non-navi's just have to guess and reset the trip odo every time i fill up..

I must fill up early because i only ususally pump 14 or so in.

As far as capacity is concerned you also have to remember that the capacity is based on the tank, so if you overfill and fill up the filling neck with gas you could get maybe .3 or so gallons in there

Well i'm glad to know i havent been pushing it because i havent driven more then 20 or so miles with the light on yet.

Oh and about dirty gas, one other thing to remember is NEVER EVER EVER fill up your car at a station if the truck is there filling up the station, (i used to work at a gas station back in the day) When they fill up the stations tanks the flow/pressure of the new gas stirs all the crap at the bottom of the tank around and ends up in your tank

I've always followed that "never fuel up when the truck is there" rule, and only now have I thought about this:

How long does it take for all the crap to settle down? I know it's impossible to know how long it's been since the truck's last been there (except in cases when you can see the guy pulling out), but it's still interesting to know if anyone has any idea.

I think I read that the navi trip computer is set to be conservative, so that even at 0, you still got a few miles left...

the last time my fuel light went on, I *think* the navi said I had about roughly 50 miles left... I guess next time I feel like running low, I'll remember to check the navi for my range...

and on another navi range note, I went for drive and had about 190 miles remaining... drove up the freeway for 50 miles and got such good gas mileage that at the end, my range wound up as 210 miles remaining...

proof that the TSX will create fuel when needed...

Will ressurect this thread.

Was my first fill up the other day, was shocked that I needed to fill up, as the fuel light came on with only 275 miles on the tank!! Needless to say, I was a bit worried. Was I really only going to get 275 miles on 16 or 17 gallons of gas for an approx 16-17mpg!!!!!!! Well, I was relieved and even more baffled when I filled up and stuggled to get 13.5 gallons in the tank!! (in a 17.5 gallon tank) While it means I got decent gas mileage, I dont get why Acura has the fuel light come on when you have at least 4 more gallons in the tank (for what should theoretically be, at least another 100 or so miles). I dont want to overfill, but I am certainly going to try to cram a bit more in next time.

Overall, just a bit odd.

Not really impressed with the MPG either on my first tank, around 20.37. Hopefully, it improves, as I typically drive 50/50 Hwy/City and expected between 25-30 and stick in BP, Shell or Mobile 93 octane. Further, I drive casually, I dont have a lead foot or gun it at all.

been paying attention for my fuel more and this is what i've found:

for my driving, i average about 24-25 MPG... the fuel light will come on when i have about 80 miles left to go (according to navi)... if i'm interpreting the config numbers correctly, the navi is set to subtract 32km (20mi) from the displayed range (unless the vaule 32000 means something else...)

whats sucks in my case is that i used to have a civic SI and those fucking civics go on forever. The light doesnt come on till the stick hits the E. After that you have about 30 or so miles. With my tsx it comes up wayyy to early in my opinion. I c my gauge and im like shit i aint at E yet i can keep going. Dude its about another 50 miles after the light turns on that you can conservitably keep driving. I dont want to get stranded so usually if it gets almost at E i fill her half way.

Ohh another thing i hate is that if i fill the car up the top half of the gas waste so damn quick compared to the bottom half of the gauge. Is it just my being crazy or what??? So i try not to fill her up all the way. I think its a waste of gas. In my opinion lol

Its not that the car uses gas faster/slower. Its just that the gas gauge is not truly linear in it's accuracy.

GM's are famous for this.. they will stay on F for 100+ miles and then start dropping like rocks.

I figure I can comfortably get about 360 miles between fillups with a typical 24-25 mpg from city driving.

I have also found that the trip computer typically off by about 1 to 2 mpg in its calculations. This is pretty constant.

Anyone know how to adjust the computer to make it a bit more accurate.

info for us non-navi people

well the day b4 i put in half a tank of gas (about 7 gallons or so). i reset my trip computer b4 i headed out of the gasy station.

Results: this is a combo of highway and city stop and go driving

total miles 165
milage when fuel light turned on 115
diff of 50 miles

the diff of 50 miles and i think it would have gone more but i didnt wanna have to call TLC lol the gauge line was past the E.

in total my tsx will put out at about 300+ a lil more miles an a full tank of gas.

One of the main reasons to not run low on fuel is that your fuel pump relies on the cooling effect of gas running through it. The more gas you have in your tank the cooler it will be.

I have never seen one single person prove this with an actual case of this. I am always emptying the car to its limits, and even after my cars had in excess of 300,000, even 600,000km in the case of my 95 Accord, I have never had any issues related to what you just stated.

Same for what toto too said: I haven't ever burned any fuel pump, so I assume it's not a critical factor. Anyways, can you imagine the danger if a fuel pump overheated in a gas tank? Manufacturers could not take such a risk, so it can't really be an issue.

Information on adjusting the MILES TO EMPTY on the Navi units is available in the TSX Service Guide, a seperate thick publication sold by Acura.

Mine is in storage or I'd quote the relevant sections.

Thank you for telling me it can be done and on identifying a source of info.

I have the service manual on the wish list (gotta give friends and family gift ideas), but till I get a copy can anyone give me the details of how to adjust the mpg calculation from the manual?

How could you have driven a car 600,000km and not had to replace a fuel pump????

I just did it., and the fuel pump never failed. I've had a lot of things go wrong on my Accords, but never a fuel pump, and I always ran them dry.

sauceman who can't count the number of times he got in trouble for running the car dry of gas and having to run around to get gas to make it to the next station.

Guys, my low fuel indicator came on with the needle about 1/8 of a tank full. I've done 515km on the tank. Is this normal? Seems like it came on way too early. How many litres can I expect from the remaining tank? Thanks
