Friggin Brakes!!

Hey guys,

Just wondering how often you guys have had to get your OEM rotors turned on your first gen TSX? I just hit 27k miles, and was getting this droaning type of sound when I initally brakes from higher speeds.

Anyway, took my car to Acura today and paid $90 to have the OEM rotors cut and machined. So, now is all good.

So, how can I prevent them from warping again? What causes this?

Thanks much!

Having warped OEM brake rotors is all part of the TSX experience. Search around, you'll find that a ton of people have them. I'm taking mine to the dealer on Friday for the same thing. And mine have been warped for at least the last 8k miles or so. The one dealership said they wouldn't touch them, so I'm going to a different one. They said they'd turn them for me and evaluate them from there, but they're going to cover it under warranty. Don't know why your dealership charged you.

huh, that pisses me off. They told me that with 27k miles on my 2007 TSX, they couldn't cover them under warranty. I didn't realize that OEM rotors were covered under warranty. I wish I would have researched this prior to going to the dealership. Oh well, too late now!

Also, what are some decent, but not terribly expensive brake rotors that I could upgrade to? I can't stand the OEM rotors. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

Having the rotors machined may help for a little while but it will come back again. Your best bet is to go aftermarket with Bremo blanks. Some people on the forums mention that they rust but from what I have seen they rust like the OEMs.

Although the rotors do warp quite a bit, make sure that you're rotating your tires at a regular interval. I couldn't believe how much it impacted the ride quality while braking.

I was driving a previous car down a very steep hill and had to brake to make a sharp turn. I drove thru a puddle of cold water so the brakes did not cool down slow enough-hence warped rotors I do not know what caused my tsx rotors to warp 60,000+miles ago but I got them fixed free by the dealer (warranty)

likewise, it must depend on your dealer. We took our 2008 in at 43,000 miles and they turned to rotors and gave us new pads for free!

I just spent $179 with Brakemotive and got 4 new rotors and new pads for all 4 wheels shipped to my house. The OEM rotors had about 65K miles on them and were warped. While the new rotors and pads have been on the car less than a week, many folks here have had good luck with them in non-performance driving situations. I would not put such inexpensive stuff on my MX-5 turbo I autocross, but on a daily driver TSX it seems like a great value. I wouldn't spend a dime on having tht OEM junk cut after all the stuff written here about the subject.

My 04 tsx rotors warped about 10 times. Even started after the first 5000 miles. So 2 years ago i had the dealer upgrade to front slotted rotors for about 400 bucks, and i've now gone 100k miles with no issues at all. Seriously getting new after market rotors was the best thing i ever did for this car.

i need new rotors as well, i put HAWK HPS pads on and now the rotor surface is like corderoy. i dont know if its related but when the car is comming to a stop at slower speeds it feels and sounds like ABS kick in even when i stop slowly, its like a slow grinding sound, still stops good tho. hope its the rotors and not the abs system. gonna get acentric pads and rotors.

I gave up on the horrendous OEM brakes and pads and went aftermarket. I'd recommend the same to you. Excellerate can recommend some excellent alternatives.
