i attended a new owner's clinic put on by the acura dealer from where i bought my tsx and they emphasized that the first oil change should be at 3700 miles then every 3750 miles thereafter.
when raised with questions about the manual, how it says differently, they basically noted that just because it says to, doesn't mean you need to. from my point of view, after hearing that... i was thinking "ahh, good marketing tactic"
then i was confused and asked what about the "oil life" reading on my dash and they said that i could follow that percentage reading if i wanted to push the oil to its limit but i was better off getting it done every 3750 to keep my tsx living a good long life.
just thought i would throw that into the mix
the dealer did mention that driving conditions here in utah also add into their 3750 evaluation...

It's all in how the person who is presenting the opinion is compensated. If you talk to the service department or anyone trying to maximize the profit of Acura service departments in general (i.e. - "New owner seminars"), they will tell you to come in at shorter intervals.
If you talk to a salesperson selling you the car, they think you want to hear "extended service intervals", (i.e. 5000-10,000mi), because they think that will help them sell the car and get paid commission.
In the case of the owner's manual, the factory is giving you a recommendation that will keep them out of warranty $$$ due to their interval, (i.e. - failed engine parts). At the same time offering a reasonable "extended service interval" you want to hear on the front end while being sold the car.
Hence the different stories you get from different people, and I didn't even give you the example of those on this board who some like Michael Wan have experimental test data to back up, while others are STRICTLY opinion.

Well said.... and, whan all else is confusing, just follow the manual. Havoline 5W-30 is an excellent choice.

TSX: Boeing Dreamliner!
I changed the oil at 6300kms. I feel that waiting until 8K (per Canadian recommendations) is a little too far as I've done 80% city driving which is more 'extreme' and consuming then highway driving. The oil was a little darker than golden but not really dark. Since I changed it (the dealer put 5/20) I've improved efficiency a little - although the oil is not as golden as it was about half way through the 1st oil. I don't trust the dealers at all - next time I'm marking the oil filter and taking a picture just in case they don't change it. Once the 2nd free oil change is over, I'm doing it myself.
