Mileage

I know that most of you guys are adults but I still need an answer. How many miles should a highschool junior put on his car per month? Thanks.

I think that's up to you. How much do you drive? The average I think for US drivers is around 15K per year if I'm not mistaken. If you love it, drive it, if not, don't or trade it. Ha

Was that you that started the other thread begging everyone not to comment on your age?

Please, can you lose the age fixation/ inferiority complex or something, and come down to one single intelligent post without alluding to your age?

I don't understand the connection between age and mileage? I probably drove more miles in highschool than I do now working because I lived 30 minutes from my high school. Mileage has more to do with your driving habits than it does with your age.

And I never started a thread about my age. I do get comments about me being 16 and owning a TSX and rude comments about me not caring about the car since my parents payed...so next time, think about some of the background before making criticism. I have put in a comment to tell people to not talk about my age when they answer my questions, but that was inside a thread that asked another question. There was never a thread only asking people to stop talking about my age. Thanks.

Well okay, I thought some of you guys would know that highschool juniors have a big social life when they get a car. The question asks how many miles is too much?

There is no such thing as too much. It's only too much if you can't afford the gas. Again, I don't understand what age has to do with mileage?

Why is this important? Are your parents planning on restricting your mileage?

And honestly, reasonable parents wouldn't restrict mileage because as long as the kid has a legitimate reason for going out, then it shouldn't be a problem.

If I bought it for them its their car they can put as many miles as they like on it...why is this even an issue? Are you paying for gas or are your parents?

that question is still unanswerable. here is an idea....you should put as many miles on your car as you are told.

Big social life as a HS'er? If you go to college, you'll see that this remark is far from the truth.

Where are ya gonna go? The beach every weekend and school during the week? The mall? Shouldn't be too many miles... When I went to college, I prolly put a lot of miles on coz the university was on the other side of town.

Keep track of your milage and your gas. You can figure out how many miles you go per day by writing down your milage in the morning. Use both of your trip odometers and you can easily track milage for gas too.

None, they should get off their fat asses and walk, ride a bike, or take transit.

I doubt even a socially active kid drives any more than your typical 9-5 slave with a commute. 10-15k is about light-to-normal.

Someone lock this down before it gets out of hand. The bottom line is, drive it where you need and want to go and not worry about it. I'm assuming (could be wrong) that your parents paid for the car and quite possibly could be funding your gas also. If, and I say IF, that is the case, then drive it like you stole it!

My younger brother put 120,000 miles on a car in 3.5 years from the age of 16 - 20. My dad was not happy but hey he did enjoy life in those years if you know what I mean. So I guess it is all about how much "fun" you want them to have

Well, if it is of any help, as soon as I started driving, I drove 60,000 miles per year.
