Thanks,

I have wondered the same thing. The manual says 10k unless you live in an extreme climate. My dealer recommended 5k.

4-5k if you are on REGULAR OIL

7-8k if you are on SYNTHETIC OIL

(always try to keep fresh clean oil in your car.....simple as that)

I thought it was every 10,000 miles or every year.

Does anyone on here subscribe to the first oil change at 750-1,000 miles then go to the normal (5 or 10K) interval? The theory is during the break-in period metal from various engine parts being broken-in add crap to the oil.

No.

Then follow Acura's suggested schedule and you'll be fine. I don't see why there should be any reason to put this in doubt.

What would be considered an "extreme" climate? High heat (desert), extreme cold (northern areas), high humidity (Florida), all of the above? I ask because we're moving to FL in March after we buy our TSX, so I was interested to know.

Hahaha, pwned

For the regular maintenance schedule (to which not many qualify due to weather or driving habits), your maintenance schedule is due every 10K miles.

For the severe maintenance schedule (to which most qualify to), your maintenance is due at 5k miles intervals.

You can consult the maintenace list at you dealership at the servce counter to know what to do, and when.

So it does or does not cover the point I made above about a "break-in oil change?" You made it sound like the manual covers this, unless i misinterpreted your post.

For your first oil change you will not need to come in any further. Honda uses a specially formulated oil for the breaking in process, and it is meant to remain until 5k miles. I don't know however, if this is covered in the manual.

My dealer explicitly told me (in his own words) "The normal interval of oil change is 5k miles. for the first oil change, due to the unique (read: harsh) conditions the car first experiences, (read: break-in) it's imparative that you change the first oil at 3,750."

THe dealer was definitly talking down to me, using big words to inflate his own sense of importance, but you know what? I remembered what he said word-for-word, so I'm gonna do it.

First change at 3,750, each change thereafter at 5k intervals.

Hope this helps...

I got a coupon for a free service at 1500 miles, but I'm not sure if they plan on changing the oil then or not.
