Smile Finally beginning to get decent mpg!

On my last 3 tanks I've averaged around 25 mpg after 15,000 miles. 70% city and 30% highway. I had been around 22 mpg for the first 15k and a bit disappointed. Like others that have commented, I face a great deal of stop and go traffic so I'm very happy with the 25mpg. It is a 2004 Automatic.

That's good to hear. I've yet to get 24 mpg with 12K+ miles so I'll have something to look forward to when I reach 15K miles.

I have 1300 miles and a 6MT. I have abominable city driving (stop at least every 1/4 mile). If I get negligible freeway time, I get 20-21. If I get some more freeway time, I get 23-25. This seems to indicate to me that in pure highway driving, I get into 30s.

I drive this stop and go real conservatively, 3000 rpm shift points, maybe lower from time to time.

I'm happy as a clam.

My gas mileage keeps gettign better as well. I have about 9000 miles on my 6MT right now and am getting about 26 mpg, about 50/50 city/highway.

I usually shift at 2800 - 3200 rpms when I am just putting around which helps.

33 mpg in 100% freeway (w/ 92 octane). NAVI says I can do 510 miles with this tank. Time will tell.

I have 18800 miles on my 6MT, drive Houston traffic daily and I get 28-30 mpg. I can't complain at all.

Note that there may also be seasonal variations due both to gasoline blends and how your car runs in cool/warm weather.

My summer mileage is routinely almost 10% higher than my winter mileage (which translates to 2-3 mpg).

rb1,
Good point. I would think my mileage is much worse in the summer here 90+ degrees with 95% humidity. A/C runs continuously.

33mpg -- my highest!

Took a pleasure ride today to St. Michaels on the Delmarva pennisula. Cute town. Loved the drive. 98 percent highway. 65 to 80 mpg. AC off for 3/4 of the trip. 72 degrees out. 33mpg. And a fine time was had by my wife and I.

Regular mileage

Just want to say, I check MPG every fillup. It runs from 26 to 28 in day to day, which for me is 2/3 hiway and the rest suburban stop and go. Northern Virginia suburban driving can be brutal.

Well stated, ziggymac. Those are the parameters by which we can make meaningful comparisons of fuel efficiency.

I just hope others will follow your example.

Even with AC use the summer milage is usually better than winter milage since a lot of gas is used during the warming of the engine - not just for the high idle but for emissions reasons.

Biker- Summer mileage would be much worse in Louisiana. We really don't run the heat much here. Sometimes I even run the a/c in the winter since daytime highs get in the 70s.
