feeler: TL Swithblade key for TSX and others

Summer is Coming
I guess I haven't been around here for a long time. I have one of FLBusa's first batch of TL keys and these questions (where to get it cut, programmed etc) are like deja vu all over again. I like the key and use it every day. But there were a lot of teething pains in getting the right dimensions and some like mine didn't quite fit all the locks in the car. If someone is going to go down this road again best of luck. It is a lot more work than you are thinking.

Rocket man speaks the truth. It took a little while to get all the kinks worked out, especially for TSX's. I like to think that I had a bit to do with diagnosing and troubleshooting the problems that the milled blanks had fitting into TSX's. I actually had to return the first key that was shipped to me, but with my feedback (and probably a good deal of legwork on his part) the issue was eventually solved (ASAIK, anyways).

There are two programming parts that need to be done. Syncing the key to your car so that the buttons lock/unlock/truck work you can do yourself if you know the steps. Programming the ignition key interlock has to be done by a locksmith or the dealer. The dealer will make a huge deal out of it and some were charing over $100 bucks. I took mine to a local locksmith who programmed all my keys for $40. He also noticed the key did not belong to the TSX and said he could do the same milling job. But there really are some tight tolerances needed to get the right fit with ease of insertion.
At the time the TL key mod was at full tilt there was a huge thread going. Anyone wanting to repeat the mod should find this thread and read, maybe get some lessons learned. Or pay FLBusa's price. I think I paid a similar amount in the end. Hard to do it much cheaper on your own I think.

His keys fit like a glove in TL's, but weren't fitting into TSX's. Turns out the keyways in the TSX's tumblers were either tighter, or had more rounded off edges inside, or who knows what. I believe that he eventually reprogrammed to cut the proper chamfers into the edges of the keys.

I'm wondering if the 09 TSX Switchblade keys fit the current gen TSX.
If thats the case, then we won't have to go through the trouble of getting TL keys and milling them down.

Not likely. As with all recent Honda keys, the new key will probably be the new style flat blade (often referred to here as "laser cut" even though it's really not). I'd bet it's probably the exact same key as the TL switchblade key.

Go Flames Go!
There's nothing wrong with the FLBUSA ones. They're perfect and my local locksmith did a great job on the cut and programming process. I just want a back-up key just in case something happens to my current one. IIRC, he used to sell MEM2 keys as well but it's a bit more expensive than the MEM1s. I'm also from Canada so there's that added shipping cost but it's all worth it.

I bought 2 FLBusa ones back in the day, and by back in the day, I mean during summer of 07 haha. Both of mine were Mem1s, and that was for an '04 TSX, so unless the '06-'08 TSXs have memory seats, you might as well just get 2 Mem1s, since it's cheaper.
It was pretty funny, when I took the keys to the dealership first after I had them cut at a locksmith, they helped me program the immobilizer, but when they tried to program the remote, they forgot about the Mem settings on the remotes, so only the lock button would work, and I didn't know either, so for three hours I was sitting in my car in my garage trying to program these stupid things, and every time I tested the remote, my car alarm would go off, because the unlock didn't work, when you insert the key into the ignition to start the process again, it would go off, hahaha.
After I smartened up and read the forums again, turns out you had to enable/disable the Mem settings on the remote by pressing the unlock & lock buttons together until the remote blinked, then set them up. Wasted 3 hours for nothing and a dead battery LOL, couldn't start my car and had to jump it from my mom's car.

Price would have to be mighty attractive. I'd pay a premium for FLB's key, knowing 1) that the bugs have already been worked out, and 2) the final product turned out very well.
