Castrol Syntec Blend 10w30 every 5k miles. More than enough protection. Dino oil is more than sufficient at 5k intervals... pure synthetic is really a waste. That's my

I've been using Mobil 1 for the last 63000 miles. Change the OEM stuff out to Mobil 1 at 3000 miles. I loose a qt of oil in 3500 miles, but get 25-27mpg highway/city mix (70-30 respectively).

always a great debate. Here is the simple truth and what is best for your pocket. That is what matters most, right? The engine in you car will last to 100K with just about any oil. HOw long are you going to keep the car? If you are not going to put that many miles on the car or are not going to keep it 8 years or more, then why bother buying expensive oil? When you trade it, the oil you use will not make one bit of difference in what you will get for it.. In this case use the cheapest good oil you can find. If you are going to race the car, then syn oil would be the way for you to go.

Me? I use Mobil one. Why? My cars sit alot and I tend to keep my cars a long time. My Toyata truck is 23 years old by only has 72,000 miles on it. Still runs like new thought is is a rust bucket. I have 2 Acura's,(TL and RL both 06) The RL gets regular dino oil cuz, it is a lease and will be gone when the next gen RL comes out. The TSX gets mobil one, cuz I do not know how long I will hold on to it.

Get the picture?

syn oil every time. I plan to keep it till one of us dies. I've been a flipper of cars in the past and I'm tired of losing money that way.

on a slight tangent, does anyone know where in the owners/maintenance manual it says you should change your oil after you purchase the car? i've searched several threads and referred to all my manuals but can't seem to find a recommended # of miles. only reference seems to be when your maintenance minder comes up or if you're oil life goes down to 15-20%.

maybe i missed it somewhere. or do they not put suggested mileage b/c it's subjective?

That's the "Normal" schedule. "Severe" is 5K miles, which I would say most of us do.

I use M1 and go the 10K schedule. To me....the severe schedule is really for those severe uses, which don't apply to most of us. However, most of the people on this board are overly cautious and thus might be more apt to use the severe schedule.

My car is for driving back and forth to work (25 miles each way) on a typical "commute", which means some stop and go and lots of 50-75MPH driving and I feel perfectly comfortable in my oil change choice and interval. I plan on keeping this car for many years and many miles (I have 45K right now)....

follow the maintenance minder (oil life) and let the acura dealer change the oil (whatever they use seems to work)

2012 TSX Manual say 0W-20

I like Penzoil and Castrol. Currently using Castrol High Mileage in a Honda.
This will be my first oil change for the 2012 TSX. I asked dealer about the break in period and they said just go by the maintenance minder. It can tell when to change your oil. It just hit 5% at 8600 miles.

For 0W-20, I'm going with Penzoil Platinum Synthetic.

Hard to believe I need 0W-20 for Texas but these new engines I guess. I used 5W-20 for the Honda. Everyone said yes follow the owners manual.

Looks like they're going ever thinner. The 010 I just bought uses 5W-20, though as is my practice, I'll move to 0W-20 for the winter (didn't know there was such a thing by the way). We started the move to 0W-30 in the turbo Audi's a little over 10 years ago. We were looking for any advantage in getting cold oil to the turbo as soon as possible. Who knows if it made any difference, though I'm convinced it's a plus in winter weather if the car spends the night outside.

I would be surprised if there is any difference in oil requirements between the 1st gen and 2nd gen TSX, but Goodtexan has a 2nd gen, and this is a 1st gen forum.
