Driving in New York City...NY drivers input plz!

I'm trying to decide if I want to drive my 08 TSX to NYC or just rent a car. I want to drive it because it has NAVI and everything and I'm not familiar with NY like that. But i've seen some massive potholes and some crazy drivers there. I will be going to Brooklyn but is it worth it to drive it or just rent a car. I guess it's better to get input from people who probably drive there on a daily basis. Thanks

The only day I would drive in NYC would be on sundays-otherwise I would take a bus there.

Mass transit for sure. Aside from the traffic, there's barely any parking and your car will get maimed.

sunday would be the height of all crazies out on the road at the same time.

where exactly are you coming from? you can try to park somewhere outside of the city in a safer place, and just take the subway in.

I just park at a friends when i know i need to go into Manhattan during the day.

Its only quicker to drive at night like late night.
Plus I wouldn't want to risk my car getting hit by another cab in stop and go traffic...
Bumpers at stop and go are life savers, but man I thought it was all over when the damn cab driver hit me.

Where are you coming from exactly?

I live in NYC and my TSX is my daily driver.
Some parts of Brooklyn have okay roads, but the majority are shitty.
Currently a lot of areas are being repaved, so right now certain streets are dug up.

If your not lowered you don't have to worry about potholes as much, but they're still there, just take them slowly.
I don't worry about other drivers/taxis, I guess I've adapted to their craziness with a little of my own.

I can either drive a '98 4Runner or '99 Expedition around town, but I find it's more pleasurable in my car.

And as long as your car is not heavily modded you don't have to worry about theft, just don't leave valuables in plain sight.

I live in Brooklyn and the roads are fine. The area I live in (Sheepshead Bay) never have any stop and go traffic. If you're coming from the south, you won't have to worry about going through Manhattan, but if you're coming from the North, you could go from the Bronx to Queens then Brooklyn.

you can always park at a lot in brooklyn (there's one that's $20 flat rate for the whole day) and take the 2 or 3 train into the city.

When my daughter lived in Bay Ridge (Brooklyn) I used to drive in all the time to visit, the only part that was an issue is finding a parking space and hoping that you don’t get “bumped parked” by someone. Driving the Belt parkway in the TSX is a blast.

I drive to work everyday in my Acura TSX into Manhattan. I use to drive my SILLY-SLAMMED Prelude into the city everyday as well. This was the result: http://preludezone.com/showthread.php?t=3984

All i can say is that if you are not lowered, you're gonna be okay. If you are lowered and cant drive funny over bumps, then rent that Ford Taurus!

Thanks everyone for the advice. I'm coming from Hampton Roads, Virginia. Yeah, I don't have any mods on my car so I will probably drive it and hope for the best.

Nice! You're going to have fun driving here. Is this going to be your route?

95N > Goethals Bridge > Staten Island Expressway > Belt Parkway?
