Driving on the Blue Ridge Parkway
So I just got up to college last week and discovered that I am only 15 minutes from the parkway. so I headed over there for a quick drive. The cool thing is that the speed limit is 45mph and you really max out at 75 so it's not really insane speeding. anyways I'm new at hard driving and I have a few questions.
first, what is a good psi for my tires so that they are predictable and secure?
second, about 30 minutes into my run on the way back down my brakes started to shimmy and shake. what does this mean? I was in a low gear most of the way down so I wasn't really using my brakes that much.
oh and what is passing procedure on these kind of roads?

Hey I am also 15 minutes from the Parkway, but that's from the entrance on Afton Mountain. It's a great road to drive fast on but be very careful, lots of law enforcement patrolling. As for your brake vibration it's probably from either build up on the rotors or warped rotors. It's good that you use lower gears because otherwise it would be hell on your brakes.

yeah I'm in lexington which is a little north of roanoke VA. I didn't see any cops on my stretch and I mean you really have to work to go faster than 20 over the limit.
anyways there was a thread a while back about how there were hardly ever such things as "warped" rotors. someone said that it was actually a problem with the pads. Anyone remember this? either way what do I do to fix the problem? how much are new pads?

Summer is Coming
I went to school in Lexington (VMI) a looong time ago. You could have warped your rotors by over heating them if you were using your brakes heavily and they didn't have time to cool. OR.. you could have gotten a "shiny" spot on your rotors or pads. You can try to do the break-in procedure for new pads (only if the rotors aren't warped). If the rotors are warped you need new ones. To do the break in procedure... follow this link.. http://www.zeckhausen.com/bedding_in_brakes.htm I recently replaced the pads on my car (not a TSX) and made myself car sick doing this procedure but it really works.
