Dogs in your TSX?

Our new TSX should be here anyday now (fingers crossed), and we've been going back and fourth about allowing our dog (a Poilsh lowland sheepdog) in it. She routinely travels in our Quest but we're not so sure about the TSX.
Do any of you dog owners allow your dogs in your TSX?

German Shepherd Mix in The TSX

I love my car. I love my dog. Its a tough choice, but my pooch wins. She is about 50lbs and sheds like mad, but its pretty easy cleanup with leather.

I also purchased a dog seat cover that is wonderful, helps keep dirt/mud off the seats. You can get all different types of them online for $50+, but if you are lucky you can find them in discount stores like TJ Maxx or Marshall's for about $15.

(Or you can have your crafty girlfriend make you one for free)

In addition to the seat cover, you can buy harnesses/seatbelts especially for your dog. I boght a harness, then went to home depot and rigged up a nice setup that is the equivalent of a leash with a clip on both ends, one end clips to the dog's harness, the other to the handy little child seat bracket in the back, near the headrest.

post your e-mail and I will send pics.

I hate it when my buddy rolls w/ me and he has dog hair on his clothes. I couldn't imagine putting the dog in my car. No way a dog gets in, but I keep my car really clean and like it that way.

My wife and I have a small pooch (Yorkshire Terrier). So either one of us are always holding him (to prevent him from scratching up the interior); plus we place a fleece blanket covering the back seats in case he decides to go to the back.

I love my yellow lab...I mean love. Like, I've told my wife if we ever get divorced, I want my plasma, stereo equipment and my dog. She can have every thing else (I may have to change that with my new daughter and new TSX)

Anyways....as much as I love my pooch, she has not gotten to cruise in the TSX. If I absolutely had to....I'd probably try and drop the rear seats and let her peek her head out from the trunk. I'm anal b/c I'd have hair everywhere and dog slobber on the windows....not a pretty sight.

The dog has her "seat" (the cargo hold) in our Pathfinder. She finds it quite luxurious and it's even safe with her seat belt (leash tied up)

She does ride in the Quest all the time. BTW, for a family with children, the Quest is just fantastic! I don't buy into the notion that I have to drive an SUV to be cool and that minivans are "mommiemobiles." My sister-in-law, when she saw our new Quest said,"Oh I would NEVER drive a minivan."
I don't give a sh** what other people think of what I drive. Never have.

No dogs in the TSX (mostly). On a couple occasions I've had a dog ride inside (on the floor) for a quick 2 min ride but that's about it. When I'm taking the dogs somewhere for real, I put them in their kennels in the back of the Suburban. Having an animal loose in a vehicle is an unnecessary risk.

hmmmm well we hav two dogs.... a bichon, hes got his own little car seat thing that attaches to the seat n keeps him planted. he doesnt shed any of his own hair, but he sheds my other dogs fur sometimes.

my lab on the other hand shes about 100 pounds. shes taken a few rides in my car, mostly beucase of the move. it wasnt so bad put some sheets on the seat n she just parked it there and chilled out. shes gettin old so i didnt hafta worry about her moving around all too much. the shedding wasnt so bad.

one more thing, if u plan on taking dogs that arent in seats or tied down, pleaseee drive slower for them. take turns slower n wider, i know with my older dog it hurts her when the car jerks n stuff around sharper turns. pluys they arent tied down and theyll go all over the place.....

its funny, im the same way with people in my car. if its not a hot chick whos sitting in the passenger seat, then you dont get a ride. the back seat is only for hot freinds of the hot chick. therefore since none of this happens, i hardly ever have passengers.... well other than my brother since i drive him to school n sports. but hes got a towell n stuff to sit on after soccer...that bish aint ruining my leather, he is only allowed to touch towell, nothing else!

I have 5 dogs. There is absolutely no way under any conditions that I would ever even consider possibly thinkinking about considering letting them come within 20 feet of my car. In addition i dont let my brother or my parents near the car. They must all work their way up to TSX

its the quest notthe fact that it is a mini van..... I am partial to honda makes.... the odyssey is far more superior to the quest, but I also am not here to have a minivan discussion.

I have a German Sheppard and a Dachshund. I had the small one once, I think, in the car because I had to go to the vet and the 4Runner was not available. I don't recommend it because the holes in the seat make it easy for their claws to snag one and rip the leather.

I let my 16lbs Min Pin in the car all the time. But he has to stay on the mat on the passenger side foot well. and he does. No seat for him.

You're quite right- this is a TSX forum.
But....we did look at the Odyssey and didn't care for it. People who find it "superior" to the Quest will obviously buy it, and I hope they enjoy it immensely. It is an excellent minivan, we just like the Quest more.
And now back to TSX issues.....

Anyone have a good recommendation for a good quality cover to throw over the seats that dogs can sit on?

zeta sits in my lap or lays in the passenger seat. she's only like 5 lbs. and doesn't shed. she loves to look out the window, but is way too short and has to do this crazy balancing act on my leg and the armrest. i want to make her a custom window seat so she can chill. i only get to see her a couple times a month, though, so we don't take many roadtrips together anymore.

i'm getting a 65 lb. red nosed pitt in a couple days, so we'll see how that goes.

cheap, effective alternative for dog seat cover

I have 3 dogs, two mid size and one large (lab). We have a pathfinder and usually use it for dawg hauling option 1, but occasionally, I am stuck with the TSX and needing to transport 3 slobbering hounds (distant option 2), so I picked up this tip from someone on this website a year or so ago... bath mats. Yes, bath mats. I use two of them in the back seat, they are fast and easy to set up, store easily in the trunk, and the sticky-ish bottom on them keeps them from sliding all over the place when the dogs are squirming. You can even find colors to match your interior!
Only downside is no back seat protection (only on seat bottom), but I have not really had any issues with that so far (our dogs are fairly clean, and most dirt or hair will not stick to the leather back anyway)-

My beagle rides in the TSX, but he greatly prefers the S2000 with the top down. He sometimes puts small scratches on the car, but WTH, it's just a car.
