Question Do you fit the "profile" of a typical TSX buyer?

I don't know if this has been discussed already, but I read an article in an automobile magazine recently and saw that Acura expected the TSX buyer to fit into this "profile":

1. Male
2. Annual income of $80k+

And people who buy the TSX are supposed to do so for "emotional reasons" (supposedly people buy the A4 and 3 series for "emotional reasons" also!!!). Hmm...

Do you fit the profile???

Kanon23, it's actually USD... I just checked again - the article was actually from Car and Driver. I also missed out a couple other things too:

1. Majority are married

2. Age: 30 something

Hmm.....

More than 80K US, yes (is it annual household income or just for the buyer)?
Almost married
age 28

Emotional buyer, not. Buyer with good taste, yes.

Just one thing, is Honda targetting canadian buyers with a salary of $110K/year (80K US)???

I work in advertising and a demographic stat like $80K/year is most likely HOUSEHOLD income.

Makes sense: $80K is a lot easier scrape up with a spouse's income lumped in.

Which makes me a Honda marketing bullseye:
1. Male
2. $80+k (household)
3. Married
4. 35
5. Decision made by equal parts emotion and logic
6. VERY good taste

1. duude
2. live off the folks
3. a million miles away from marriage
4. Age 16

I bought it because I thought it was realllly nice... to go deeper into detail:
-I got it because it was a 4 door (best one under 30K) for insurance purposes cuz i'm only 16.
-I freakin' love the way it looks... the exterior is just beautiful as is the interior.
-4 cylinder and gas mileage... you get the picture. (I was actually going to get a Liberty Renegade but gas was a killer supposedly)
-The value... (Navi, fully loaded under 30K)
-Luxury.
-Voice Activated System.. makes people go wow.
-I need a car that'll last me a while since I have to buy my own car next time since my parents buy all of me and my siblings our first car.
-YEAHHH theres more but you get the point....

To sum it all up, I don't fit in their targeted group of buyers... but it's ok they made a sale.

Just one comment... It's my girlfriend who pushed for this car (she took the final decision, at least she thinks). We went to try a bunch of car: G35, 325, C230, 9-3, IS300, WRX, Accord V6 Coupe, Mazda 6. In the end, she was sold to the TSX... She's got amazing good taste. I guess that's why I will mary her next summer

I guess the WAF (wife acceptance factor) is pretty high on this car (unlike the WRX or 9-3)...

1. Male
2. 85
3. Married
4. 41 But then, driving my TSX makes me feel more like 32.

It was initially an emotional attraction but then I sat down, cranked the numbers, read the reviews, and came to the same conclusion we all did....I MUST have this car!

1. Male
2. over 80k (I was laid off 2+ years ago at $111K plus bonus. I'm doing contract work now, and making similar money).
3. Married (in fact my wife chose the TSX as the only alternative to a beemer 3-series).
4. 47

The decision was probably more emotional than logical. I was leaning more to the G35 or Passat. My wife wanted the beemer (I was worried about future maintanence costs). Then we went to the Acura dealer, test drove the TSX, and she said it was her favorite after the BMW.

The first time I read that C&D article, I laughed because I felt like they were describing me.. except that I'll be married in May and I'm 26 (close enough)

Emotional reasons??? I was impressed by how it looked on the outside and loved the interior, but emotions probably would have led me to BMW. I have the impression many Acura/Honda buyers are more logic driven - Acura can hope, I guess. They'll be there one day

Kanon, you should move $outh

The training I went to for the TSX last spring I thought went over this topic. Acura's target market was early 30's male, college grad., $80K sounds correct.

I fit the target...

isn't it true that people earn more but also spend more in the States? My friend works in Seattle, WA and he told me that things there are lot more expensive~

and yes...same emotional reason of choosing TSX over the others

I fit the profile almost perfectly. If I remember correctly the article also stated that the car would be a compromise for those who wanted something sporty but wanted the room of a family-type car for hauling around kids or whatever. That's exactly what drew me to the car. It's sporty enough for me while being practical enough for the family-side of things.

I bought it for the name basically. Acura, a division of Honda, which means this car should last me a while, until I can make that $80K. Plus I liked all the includes for the price and I had a friend who had an RSX and raved about it. Peer pressure.
