Which Disc Do I Need?

I'm purchasing an '06 MT6 TSX w/ navi; however, it doesn't have the navigation dvd. I noticed these are $185 from Acura and/or Alpine. I have seen several on ebay for much cheaper but I don't know which one to purchase. There are diferent versions, colors, and also different acuras that these have come in. Could someone enlighten me? Thanks!

yeah... I thought it was pretty stupid. but, generally speaking, would I be safe buying a "white" disc off of ebay? I don't really care as to whether or not it's the most up to day or not. Also, is it safe to assume that I can use the discs that come out of a mdx for example? or a tl? just so long as it is a white disc i should be fine, correct?

Well since you're buying a 2006 you need to buy one of the latest versions because I don't think it will "downgrade" if you pop in a disc with a lower version than what originally came in the car (version 4.31). The version prior to that (4.13) doesn't support the Hands Free Link/Bluetooth.

4.31 came with the 2006 TSX, but the current version is 4.55, available as an upgrade. Either will work for you. Both discs are white.

cool. I found a couple of white 4.55 discs on ebay. I was hoping to go that route rather than forking over almost $200 from the dealer.

Just a word of caution.. If the navi was ever upgraded with a 4.55 then you cannot downgrade. At least that's how it worked on the '04s. To downgrade you had to go to a dealer so they could reset something in the Navi.

Oops I see 26Shaun already covered this. Oh well, worth repeating.

The Alpine site shows what model discs are required for each model year. And, no - it's not a safe assumption to assume you can mix and match with other Acura models without checking version numbers.

How do they get away with this at trade-in? Doesn't the dealer notice the PLEASE INSERT DISC message when they're inspecting the car? Hmm..

It's my understanding you go by the DVD color. Colors can span across models and model years, and as long as you use the same color DVD you should be ok. The version number only has to do with what is the most recent version of a specific color dvd. As it's been stated previously, if you upgrade to a newer version number, you can only go backward in versions with the help of the dealer.

All of the '07 models use the White DVD - I believe '07s ship with v4.55.

But, for '06, only the RL, TSX & MDX used the White DVD (the TL used Orange just like the '04 & '05 TSX). This wouild mean you can't use an '07 TL DVD in an '06 TL, but you can mix & match the others because they use the same color. This being said, you can't use an '06 or '07 TSX white DVD in an '05 or an '04 TSX (unless you have had hardware upgrades done to accommodate the newer version DVDs)

'06s, I believe, shipped from the factory with v4.31.

is there anyway to determine what the last software version that was loaded onto my tsx's navi was? I would think I would be fairly safe in buying version 4.55.

Don't take this from the seller! The car does not have Navigation without the disk. The owner has the disc, insist they provide it. If not raise a huge stink, tell them they are trying to pull a fast one on you and complain to the dealership, or whatever they are advertising the car on. If they advertise the car as having Nav and do not provide the disc they are misrepresenting the car. Use their dishonesty as leverage. Personally I would not buy the car from this person or dealer... if they are dishonest about this, think what else they are not telling you. Is this a used car (I assume)? Who sells a 1 year old used car? Has it been in an accident? Did you run CarFax? Something sounds fishy to me.

Rocket_man is right though, you should complain. Basically you're getting an 06 without navi. The dvd is a vital component, and you shouldn't have to fork over more money to get it. Otherwise, they should drop the price by $200.

With the version 4.31c I have for sale, I successfully made a copy of the original disc. I kept the original out of the car, and used the backup copy instead. I had no issues in it's operation. When I attempted to copy the v4.55, it didn't work and I didn't have the time to mess with it. I might try again when I have some time free ....

And I don't know for certain if you can upgrade an '04/'05 with the "hardware" from an '06/'07 and it work. It does sound feasible.

i have an '06 with the 4.31 version...according to the website...the newest version is 4.55...
my friend just bought an '07 MDX...his disc is version 4.55a(white...just like the TSX)...i'm wondering if it's possible to make a copy of his disc and use it in mine? would it mess up my navi? i'm guessing it would be ok since it's the same color disc?
has anyone tried making a copy of the 4.55 disc yet? thanks in advance
