Dialing using HFL

I'm looking at getting a TSX withing the next month or 2 and I had a question regarding Bluetooth.

Is the only way to dial numbers by using the voice command?

Or is there a "telephone keypad" screen on the nav where I can input the numbers by touching the nav screen?

Sorry, I was just wondering about this and didn't want to go to the dealership just to find this out.

Thanks in advance...

here ya go:

1). Press the HFL button on the wheel
2). Say "dial"
3). Voice asks "what name or number would you like to dial"
4). Press HFL button and say the number "Five Zero Three" or a name that's in the HFL library like "chris"
5). Voice ask "would like to dial...."
6). Press HFL and say "yes"
7). Voice, "dialing"

That's it

You're choices are dial by name or say the entire number you'd like to dial ("Bob" or "(555)555-5555)". To put a dial pad in the car would be unsafe unless it was disabled while the car was in motion.

That's my guess on why it's not in the car.

I agree it might be unsafe, but you can type an entire address into the NAV while in motion. Many more characters and a bigger keypad than a phone pad would be.

According to the Acura Bluetooth page, for my phone (Treo 650) HFL will not receive contacts. I don't use the HFL that much, but sometimes it dials using the info from my contact list and sometimes it won't. (Meaning I go to my contact list and push enter to get the phone to dial that number.) I assume it's something I'm doing differently part of the time but I haven't yet nailed it down.

No there isn't, but if the person you're trying to call is in your navi's address book, you might be able to call that way (like calling a POI...point of interest). You'd have to bring up their entry.

Is it possible to start a call on a phone and transfer it to the HFL? Too often I am on a call while on the way to the car and would like to simply set the phone down once I get to the car and use the HFL.

While you are on a call press the HFL and say "Transfer". I think the voice responds by saying, "Transfer" and your call is transfered to hands free.

It does work the other way around. While your phone is being used, just push the phone button on the steering wheel, say "transfer" and wait a couple of seconds and it will transfer from the phone to the HFL.
