Dealer 10K Maintenance: $100, and they put Valvoline?
Just got my car back from the Acura dealer for its first scheduled maintenance: the 10K oil change and tire balance/rotation. As I was driving it today, I looked up in the corner windshield and saw a recently affixed Valvoline window sticker. I was shocked! Is it possible that the Acura dealer really puts in plain old Valvoline in the TSX engine for its $100 oil change? Am I being picky or should they have put a better quality oil in the TSX engine?
Should I not take it to the dealer anymore for oil changes at scheduled maintenance time?

They just probably have lots of Valvoline stickers laying around - who knows what they put in there - probably whatever is the cheapest by the 50 gal barrel.

Valvoline is commonly used by Honda dealerships...Honda/Acura....whatever ...it's all Honda of America. Those stickers are just freebees for using their brand of oil...
That's why I change my own...and I'm going Mobil-1 synthetic after 10K miles.

Changing the oil regularly is far more important than the brand of oil that gets used. If you don't like Valvoline, use another brand that makes you happy. $100 is about $75 too much for an oil change, though. My Acura dealer charges about the same as any other full service or quick-lube shop in town.

$100 for an oil change and to rotate the tires? Did they do anything else?
If you don't get the car serviced at the dealer, be sure to keep receipts of oil changes and tune-ups. I asked my dealer, what if I did not want to do the oil changes at the dealership. He said just be sure to keep all the reciepts so if something goes wrong with the engine they won't blame me for not keeping up with the recommended service/maintenance intervals.
Just a word of advice.

valvoline is not bad oil. i use valvoline in all my car , but i change my oil at 1500 miles yes thats right 1500 miles. i know not lot of people can because of cost but oil change is the #1 reason why your engine will last. i read the manual and it said change your oil at 10000 miles i said crazy. no no

1500 miles between oil changes seems a little excessive to me. Most of the wear in an engine is going to be done in the first few thousand miles... once that's done, the wear is minimal with normal intervals of oil changes (3000-5000). I think you're wasting money doing it that often but whatvever makes you sleep well I suppose is what you need to do.
