custom sub and amp in TSX trunk

I would like to install a sub and amp in the trunk of my TSX although I am not looking for a setup that hogs all the trunk space like most units.

The aftermarket salesperson at my local Acura dealership has offered me a sub and amp that would not interfere w. the overall trunk space. In fact, one could still access the spare tire and fit luggage. The sub and amp would be located at the protruding ends of the trunk right after the wheel wells. He said it would be a custom install including fabricated plexiglass and a subwoofer box that matches the trunk carpeting.

His quote was $795 + tax.

What do you think?

I think that:
1) This should be in A/V

2) ANY non-Acura part offered through the dealership has a lot of markup in it. Since often a sub and an amp can cost more than that, I'm wondering where the markup is and what level of gear you are really getting.

3) Such an installation is certainly possible, and has been done many times (see the AV section). We do them at my shop. But I would not trust a salesman or a dealer to find such a place. I would check with Custom Sounds for one - they can certainly do it.

I could do such a system with an 8" sub or a 10" sub, a sub amp, and a fiberglass molded custom box, for that price at retail. But I don't know what they would be selling you.

Well.. you could always try a bass tube. They seem to work pretty well as long as your goal isn't to try and wake the neighbors when you come home or leave. The bass tubes will still leave you plenty of trunk space. Plus i bet they could be tucked off to the side so that you could still access the spare tire spot.

I say get the part number of the system the dealer is trying to sell you, then look it up on ebay. Or online. Almost gauranteed to save yourself 40%.

I am thinking of replacing the 6x9's in the rear dash with open air 8"s amped. Matter of fact...gonna do a search now to see if anyone has done it yet....

good luck

i would like to get custom molded subs in the corners of my trunk as well at some point. i have a box with two 12s and it eats up alot of space. i still have a decent amount of room though.
