Crosswind Handling

Has anyone noticed that the TSX seems sensitive to gusty winds? I've been trying to figure out why.

The tsx has a fairly large side profile so I'm not surprised that it is affected by crosswinds. That being said I don't think it's all that bad.

I noticed just the opposite......on windy days the car seems very solid.

The stiff suspension makes up for the tall profile (a camry or other cushy sedan will rock around in a crosswind more than the TSX). However, wind noise is another issue. I have a piercing whistle that is ALWAYS present outside the driver's side window above 55 MPH, and it gets much worse in a crosswind.

Hokie, try checking the seals around the door. It could be something as simple as a leaf or something preventing the door from closing properly. The best way to check is to put a small piece of paper in between the door and the seal and move it along the seal from front to back with the door closed. You'll have to roll down the window and do this from the outside (one hand reaching through the window). If the paper moves freely in one area you've found your leak.

Thanks Dan, I'll try that. I took the car into the dealer for the whistle, they had it for 3 weeks and never found anything. When the door is closed, there is nothing visibly wrong from the outside (the door appears to seal properly, and the gaps look normal). My next experiment will be putting masking tape over different areas to see if I can isolate the problem.

I have had no problems in gusty areas. Being is Central Cali I have to go through High Wind areas when going to LA or San Fran. Runs solid like a champ.

Yeah, it seems to move around more than my Integra, CL, MDX, and Mustangs did in the wind. Granted, it is relatively light and does seem to have a large side profile. Not complaining, just an observation.

Had some pretty strong winds when I was at school in the desert. TSX felt fine, never had a problem even in 40+ mph winds.

Compared to my old car (Olds Intrigue, sides are a bit more rounded than TSX), I can definately feel the car jostling around a bit more in crosswind. Haven't been blown off the road yet so she's all good.

I guess its all relative to what you are used to. Coming from my old car teh TSX feels like a tank on the highway, and I mean that in a good way. Cruising on the highway and dealing with wind is one place where the extra weight helps.

But if you are coming from a heavier vehicle then the TSX may not seem as good.

Indeed. It's definitely an improvement over my parent's Civic, but it's nothing compared to my parent's friend's Intrepid.

Then again, I could actually push the Civic uphill - don't think I'll be doing that for the TSX.
