Consumer Reports: No TSX
Consumer Reports: No TSX
The CR auto issue is coming out Tuesday, and it has 4 (out of 10) Honda/Acuras on the best of list. However, no TSX. There is also 3 Toyo/Lexus, and 2 Subie.
Even more interesting, the extended list of 20+ recommended cars is also totally dominated by Toyota, followed by Honda. Most Acuras are on the list except the TSX. Seems the problems we have all had at one time or another had an impact on the car's rating. Toyota and Lexus had about half of the cars on the long list - incredible.
The Germans remain troubled, as are Nissan's minivan and Lincoln Navigator. Problem rates were 49/100 cars vs. 2/100 for the most trouble free vehicle - Hyundai mid-size car. Maybe they will start transferring Chrysler parts to Mercedes to help the E and S classes. Oh my...

TSX is in Car and Driver 10 Best two years in a row, so nothing to worry about
They had a huge number of submissions this year, and there are emough TSX's out there that I doubt lack of data was a problem. TSX also didn't make the loser list, so all is not lost.

Zircon,
Thanks for the scoops.
Appreciate it if you would post the d Audi A4 & A6 and Bmw 3 and 5 series rankings.
I also suspect that TSX was not ranked as they do not have enough data.
Thanks again,

The TSX is listed on the list of "most satisfying" cars, it's also a quick pick for "vehicles with high ratings in all areas" and "overall safety". Every single Acura earns the recommended rating except the brand-new RL, TSX included. I don't see what you are complaining about.
Every time I get consumer reports and they report on anything I know about..(cars, audio/video stuff)I get pissed. Let's face it...consumer reports are not car experts. They are a "jack-of-all trades" testing magazine. How many times have you read them dinging a car for a stiff ride, yet praising the car for it's handling, or visa versa, gushing over the Toyota's plush ride, yet mentioning the handling suffers. These guys can't decide whether they want a cushy ride or good handling and they don't realize you can't have everything. I still subscribe to them but I only take things like soap and appliance reviews seriously. IMHO.

and what camoe said is quite valid as well, so I take comfort in having a Top 10 car from Car and Driver.
Dude what the hell are you talking about.
The TSX is on their recommended list. Go back and read it again more carefully.
There is a picture of a TSX. There is a red circle a check mark and the words "RECOMMENDED."
WTF.

On Page 31 of the April 2005 issue of Consumer reports (which I just happened to get in the mail today), Under Quick picks it lists...
Vehicles with high ratings in ALL areas- Acura TSX
If overall safety is importnat- Acura TSX
If owner satisfaction is important- Acura TSX
On page 34, it indicates that the TSX is not only one of their "quick picks", but is also recommended as a "best buy"
Page 41 has the "full profile" of the TSX with the following info:
Reliablity- Better than average
Satisfaction- Best
Depreciation- N/A (too new)
" The TSX is a sucessor to the Integra sedan, which left the Acura lineup with the introduction of the RSX in 2001. Based upon the smaller Accord sold in Japan and Europe, the TSX is below the TL. It features a smooth reving engine and a slick manual or automatic transmission. Handling is more agile than the Accord's, but the ride is a bit stiff. The rear seat is not that roomy. The optional navigation system is easy to use. the TSX is a pleasant car with a sporty pretense that straddles the family and sporty upscale- sedan categories."
It also made the list of reliable used cars in the $ 24,000 - $ 28,000 range

No doubt about it - the TSX is a great car. I was just repeating press reports from Sunday, in which it was not among the top 10 (as someone else mentioned the TL was in the group). Probing further yeaterday, I found the longer list on consumer reports' web site, and, again, the TSX was not among the 20 odd leaders. That doesn't mean it isn't a great car. I haven't received the magazine yet, so I am delighted to see that other info in the issue points out just how good the car is. Only thing that culd top our car is the diesel version of it, IMO. Automobile and other mags also ranked the TSX very highly. I personally think it is a better car than the TL, but everybody differs on that.
