Comparable Cars

So I really want a TSX, but I don't have enough money So I was wondering if anyone knew of a car that has about the same features as the TSX, but for much less money(something under 20,000). I really like the technological side of the tsx more than anything(navi, instrument panel, mpg in dash, the blue speedometer, etc.)

If anyone wants to give me $30,000 to buy a TSX, that would work too

Thanks for any help

The only car that is similar in the way of the navi and blue speedometer is the Civic. The front end of the new Civic looks similar to the TSX and you can get the navi option for close to 20,000. The Civic Si is really close to the TSX and they are coming out with a new Si sedan too. They have close to 200 hp.

People already do

As for the OP's question, take a look at the Mazda3 GT trim. Comes with leather heated seats, HIDs, rain sensing wipers, and other goodies for around $20k. Much more features than the new Civic.

And this should be in Car Talk?

My buddy just got a fully loaded Mazda 3 for like 22k i think and we compared and it had ALL the same features that my 04 TSX does. The inside was pretty nice too. It is a little bit smaller but the car pulls since it is lighter and is a very "whippy" car! I think that is probably something you should consider if you are look at the features. The interior llighting and stuff is the same but his is red!

Get a $300 stick-on-dash GPS unit.

I test drove the Civic Si recently, and I dunno, I don't think it really compares to TSX. It has a very different feel. Faster, harsher/firmer suspension, but no leather, I doubt it has HID lights, etc. The display looks kinda cool with this huge digital display right in the center, but I found it distracting. The clutch was firmer, like most manual cars, particularly sports cars. I was happy to get back into my TSX and drive away. It is worth mentioning that the Si is such a hot car, it's hard to get the dealers to give you a decent price on it. If you wanted a "cooler" and faster car, you might prefer it over a TSX.

I also drove a $20,000 Mazda 3, with a lot of extras, before getting the TSX. The interior felt kinda cheap, but it was really peppy, and seemed fun to drive. Zoom, zoom!

But, I think if I wanted a $20,000 car, I'd have to go with the tC. Although, I doubt you'd get the same features as a TSX (and not just the navi), I liked how it handled.

I'm sure that there must be other cars in that range that are still fun to drive, but you are not going to get HID, Navi, etc., in a $20K car.

(I wish my TSX showed the MPG in the dash!)

Don't know about those ones, but I have tomtom on my smartphone and I thought it was cool... until I got TSX w/ Navi...

I was also considering Mazda3 because I could get similar features for a lot less, but decided I need something bigger and safer. Also, Mazda6 is a great choice, but a little more expensive. Interior quality if you get all leather seems to be good enough.

My wife actually gets 2003 Mazda6 so that's another reason I decided not to get another Mazda...

Have you tested drive a Saturn Aura yet? I like it. $20k = base (pretty loaded). $25k = fully loaded. Everything in the Aura are "High Tech". The only thing that is bad I can think of is that it is from GM not Honda or Toyota.

I'm not mistaking the TSX for the Civic, but the headlight design of the new Civic is similar to the TSX and the Si's motor is almost the same.

Well both are made by Honda, but Civic is far from being a TSX

Not really. 160Hp engine Dosent have VSA, no dual CC, no power seats, moonroof is optional, no heated mirrors. Still a good value though. Should have got a Mazdaspeed3. The engine would have made up for everything.

The VW Rabbit seems nice too.

"...a 2.5-liter, inline-five that produces 150 horsepower"
"...170 pound-feet of torque"
"...standard items such as six airbags, ABS, traction control, air conditioning, cruise control, and a 10-speaker stereo with MP3 compatible CD-player."

Base price for a three-door is a frugal $15,620

Yea VW's may be frugal but they are very unreliable. I had an 06 GTI that got bought back under the Lemon Law in 4 months.

When I was buying, I had the choice narrowed down to two cars -- the TSX and the Mazda3. Ultimately I chose the TSX because it was classier (and a few other reasons), but I have to say the Mazda3 gave the TSX a run for its money. Very nice car, very fun to drive, excellent ride, corners great.

If you can't swing a pre-owned TSX, take a look at the Mazda3. The package with all the toys was called SP23 in '04 and '05, but in '06 it was called the Grand Touring (not sure about '07). You should be able to pick up a pre-owned with low mileage in the $19K range.

I loved my 06 GTI with 2.0T and DSG, but I didn't like having it towed 150 miles to the nearest dealership every other week. Damn I hate that thing!

Is the Audi unreliable like the VW? My boss always brag about his Audi shipped here from Europe. He always laugh at my souped up Honda.

They have their share of issues.. but from what I hear.. Audi service is MUCH better then VW.

Although my local dealer (which is closer then the local Acura dealer) was very good to me. I just didn't like that I was there so much that

A. They knew me on a first name basis
B. Most of the spottings people had of my car.. it was at the dealership.
C. I had to borrow a friends car for at times.. weeks.

Your boss has an insecurity problem.

Audi cars have reliability issues.

EDIT: Forgot to reply to original post.

My pick would also be Mazda3. But you really get what you pay for with the TSX. It's worth every penny, if not more IMO.

Im not a big fan of their 2.5l but that is a good value car for what you get. He could get a base Jetta 2.0T with a lot of good options and after some dealing maybe get it close to 20-21K. This way he would get a awesome drivetrain...mines been fun, problem free driving after a year and a bit of driving.

It sounds like he is really stuck on the TSX and wants everything for nothing. If thats the case wait till next fall and im sure you could get a 04-05 TSX with navi for 20K or less once the second generation TSX comes out. The resale should drop a then.

if money is an issue for you I would suggest getting a used one or a cheaper car.

C&D about creamed themselves over the Mazdaspeed3. Looks like a blast.
