chicago drivers..why so bad??
chicago drivers..why so bad??
i went up to chicago friday and came back saturday. i went up with my cousin to watch a cubs-cards game (the one that we went, the cards won 7-6, but the next day, we got smashed by you cubbies, 7-1) and to visit some family we have up there. i have to say, chicago drivers are pretty bad man. hardly anyone signals, there's a lot of people cutting each other off..and down by the area around wrigley, it's really really bad. well for one thing, those roads are so narrow, but to make it worse, these cars are overlapping the lane lines so that it makes it almost impossible to pass someone up on the other lane. anyway, i know taht i'm just making a huge generalization, and yeah i admit, here in STL, we have some pretty idiotic drivers as well, but my first experience up in chicago was not good as far as driving went.
oh and btw, the two days that i was up there, i saw more TSXs than i do in like a span of a week or so here where i live...saw quite a few CGs, saw a MSM, and i actually saw a Milano Red one, which def. caught my eye.

The CG could have been me too, I was down there Saturday, you guys had a tough loss on sunday too, I was shocked at the first inning off of Morris, he is normally a Cubs killer. Oh and thank god Vina is gone, what is his lifetime average against the Cubs, 0.600?
I do not think a game day drive around Wrigley Field is indicitive of chicago drivers, as it is probably the most conjested area of the city before a game and that probably has more to do with the experience you had more that the people driving. I mean you have wicked small streets, parking on both sides, one ways, and an extra 15,000 cars, my estimation, in a 4 square mile area. Just imagine living there.
Not defending Chicago drives, as I have seen some of the worst driving ever along 80/94 which btw is the worst stretch of highway in the NATION, but just think you should avoid at all costs Wrigleyville during a game, CTA all the way.

Not trying to hijack, but:
I went to Chicago last weekend to catch a concert at HOB and take my gf to Six Flags. Driving there reminded me a lot of driving in NYC--especially how everyone disregards the traffic lanes in the city.
It was a fun trip, though. You guys have a nice city.
I only saw one TSX the whole weekend! A PWP driven by a woman. I did pass by Schaumburg (I think) Acura, though. But I'm not counting that. :P

i was actually thinking the same thing, about the similar driving in NYC. i've only been to NYC one time, but the driving there was similar to what i saw in chicago. conant, yeah, i understand that the area around wrigley is VERY congested, but i'm saying that wasn't the only area where i saw the erratic driving. i also saw it around the suburbs (my cousins lived in an area called Buffalo Groves i think?), and even on the highways...oh, and your tolls absolutely SUCK.
I have lived in the suburbs of chicago all my life. Chicago drivers are fine. I think overall there is a higher ratio of truly crazy drivers though. On the expressway most people go between 70-80 in the left lane, 65 in the middle and 60 in the right. You just get some crazies who like to do sweeps without signals and stuff like that.
However drivers in LA and NY are worse.
The worst drivers I have ever seen were last Aug when i drove down the east coast.. People in NY/NJ are freekin crazy.

Who wants to dig out 40 cents every 10 miles? I almost got caught without exact change getting on the highway once. Who designed this system?

and yeah i know...matt morris is a bum this year. our best guy is chris carpenter..woody is an even bigger bum.
I don't think chicago drivers are bad at all. I've lived here 8 years now, so I guess I'm kinda used to it but i'll say this much. If you get pulled over in the city, you truly deserve it cuz chicago cops usually don't mess with you unless............

Nah. I've lived in most major metropolitan areas on this continent (NYC,LA,Bay area,DC,Boston, now Chicago) and I'd have to say Chicago drivers are better than average overall. You must have just had an unlucky day as far as idiot-driver encounters. I'm a New Yorker by heart but now a transplant and probably permanently, I'd have to say Chicago drivers are among the most courteous, alert, aware, and law-abiding drivers within city limits and local streets. But I admit, on the highways and around the burbs, seems like it's free game for Chi-towners.
