Catalytic converter question!

So im running an injen intake, with the competech header and a greddy evo II exhaust. I talked to one of my buddies who has a turbo rsx and he told me to lose the cat. My car is an 06 and i was just wondering if itd be worth it to get a test pipe or a RT cat? What would the outcome of this be? and if a cell was thrown, wat i could do to remove it. Thanks alot

The 06 cats flow very well, better than the 04'-05's. Replacing your existing cat with an RT will show minimal gains, I believe the testpipes show somewhere in the ballpark of 1-2hp at most difference from a high flow cat, but if you are worried about emissions or smog testing, the high flow will be the better option. There are Cel eliminators available to avoid possible Cel's being thrown.

RT cat or nothing. You have an 06 so you won't get that much gains going to RT cat, but if you want to be fully "done" on the exhaust system, it'll be a piece of that. I vote no on test pipe because you run far more risk of CEL's, you won't pass inspection (if your state has that) and I personally don't like the smell of fuel while I'm driving.

Hi everyone!

I have a question: would a cat from 03-04 4cyl Accord fit the TSX? Are the flanges the same? How about the length?

These converters seem to be easier to find.

Thanks!

I believe it will but the best bet really is to get a Fastline cat. Bolts in and fits the heat shield just like the stock cat. 06 cats don't have anywhere near the flow of a real high flow unit.

The difference between a high flow cat and a test pipe is about 1 hp. So it's better to run a high flow cat. We also have an option that is 2.25" IN/OUT and it is a 300 cell metallic core:

Word to the wise: Be careful before changing your cat especially if you have an 06. I changed mine and have not been able to eliminate the CEL light for over a year. The stock cat does not fit on my exhaust (Mugen-amount of space after header and before exhaust is not the same) and have spent alot of time and money trying to fix the problem. Before you flame me,I may just be unlucky and my car will not take to any of the tried solutions. I have tried all types of CEL eliminators and nothing. The only one I have yet to try is the one on Kingmotorsports website because I refuse to pay for a CEL eliminator that has the Mugen name on it and is the same thing ( I would assume) as all of the rest. My 2 cents...based on MY experiance. Congrats to those that have done it and have no light...

The light has nothing to do with the fact that you have an 06. You might have put work into the issue but you clearly have not found the right part. That's not the car's fault. We had some initial cels with the flp test pipes and cats and have fixed them all.

I do agree that it does not depend entirely on the year. As time goes on and cars get more advanced i.e. computerized, they can be harder to fool. That is more along the lines of what I meant. Like I said I may have just been unlucky to have to car not respond to any of my attempts to fix the issue. What kind of "right part" would you be able to suggest?

Thanks for your answers!

What do you folks think about the Magnaflow 99355HM cat? Looks like it should have a good flow, and I can get it welded in in place of the original cat for about $40.

Here is a link:

Thanks!

I guess that is pretty hard to say...We have had to cut off the secondary O2 almost completely. Out pipes have a O2 sensor standoff and 1/6" hole at the base. The hole is so small!

These cars are very sensitive indeed. More so than S2000 and such.

Hey Marcus. Thanks for the input. I am a little confused still. Would I want to make the hole at the end of the de-fouler, CEL eliminator or whatever we would like to call it bigger or smaller?

My guess is you probably need the hole SMALLER.
