Car Skidded Twice at 15MPH
Car Skidded Twice at 15MPH
So here we go Snow in Jersey 7AM in the morning. Doing good 65/70 on Rt287 No problem. Back Road Light snow Car Skids No brake applied Nothing.WTF. Only thing I can think of is
1) Car came with 2 Brand New Michelin Tire.
2) I replaced the rear ones with Falken 912(Used 512 before very happy even snow)
Going on a bent road I Skidded so on the way back I decided to be more careful and did a 360( same spot)..
Any input will help.

It's the tires. I'm not sure if your tires are all-seasons, winter-rated, or if the tread is worn and simply insufficient now...but you're apparently not getting grip.
I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago here, with light snow and some ice. The car was helpless.
I discovered that the tires were the problem. They were performance tires, (that "claimed" to be all-seasons with a M=S rating). But they had no siping -- the little slots in the rubber that allow a tire to grip snow and ice. I just got some Michelin Pilot Alpin winter tires on separate wheels. (Found them on Craigslist, virtually brand new, on some 16" allow wheels that look great. As others have said, 16" wheels fit tires that have a narrower tread, which also help with traction.) --An amazing difference. We just a foot of snow the other day, and the car is now able to go anywhere, without any slipping.
I'd go to your local tire store and check your tires.

An added note... The tires that came with my car, (the ones that were awful in light snow), were brand new. In fact, the first guy at the tire shop said, "those are brand new tires, and they have an M+S rating, they should be fine. I'd try them.") I thought, great.
Well, I tried them and they were the worst winter driving experience I've ever had. I was terrified to drive the car in any snow. I went on Discount Tire's website and read reviews for the tire and found out I was not alone...they were great for the summer, but several people complained about them being very bad in snow. So I changed the tires and I'm glad I did.
Trust your instincts. If you're not getting grip in light snow, there is really just one place that has contact with the road...the four small areas of tire tread. Fortunately, that can be improved.

Maybe the snow was packed down due to other cars driving on it and that creates a layer of ice; doesn't necessarily have to be black ice. Check you speed; doing a 360 is kinda scary ya know. As others have said it may be the tires, I have Eagle GT All Seasons and they seemt obe fine. I have never driven with winter tires and drive carefully and slow in the snow with no issues.

Get new winter tires.
I have Dunlop's Graspic DS2 and everything is fine. And the winter is pretty nasty in my area (a lot of snow, ice and temperatures below -15С.
Also don't turn off VSA in snowy conditions. It helps a lot!

You should be running 4 tires that are the same, not 2 different kinds.
I have Dunlop Winter Sport M3s for winter and didn't have one slip or anything in that snow yesterday. Snow tires really do make a world of difference.

The TSX is a very light car in the snow and the OEM tires are absolutely useles in any kind of snow. After skidding around everywhere last year I finally bit the bullet and shelled out for Michelin X-Ice on all four corners. Very happy so far, although we've not had anything more than a few inches here so far.
I'd suggest getting 2 more new Falken 912s to match the rears you changed.
While it is generally best to run four of the same tires, (especially with winter tires), two more Falken 912's are not going to help.
Much like the tires I recently pulled off my car for the winter, they are summer performance tires, not the sort of tire that is going to make a big difference in snow. Take a look at the reviews here, (specifically the ones describing how bad they are in snow.)

As I said above, and others have posted as well, I would take the car in to your local tire shop and see what you can find for winter tires or at least all seasons with a good snow rating.

Oh, I assumed the Falken 912's were all season or winters. That's what I get for assuming. In that case, Boulder's right, don't get 2 more of them. You should have a winter set and a summer set, but if you're funds won't allow such a purchase ATM, try a full set of all seasons. They're not perfect, but they're way better than running summer tires in snow.
