Burning smell after first oil change at dealer
I just got my car back from the dealer after my Maintenance A service. Car only has 3200 miles but it's mostly city driving. After driving the car for 10 mins, I notice a burning smell coming from the engine. I pulled over and open the hood and sure enough, there's a strong burning oil smell. I figure maybe some oil leaked onto the surface and it wil just evaporate. Well, after 40 mins of highway driving back home, the smell is still there. Is this normal?? I never notice this smell when changing oil on my old cars. Just want to make sure I don't sound like an idiot when I call the service department tomorrow.

The dealers are a mess. They didn't clean up the spilled oil after they removed the old oil filter. To be honest, its not the easiest filter to change without some spillage. No worries, when the car is cool (b/c the exaust manifold is right near the filter and will burn a hole through you faster than you can say ah) whipe the excess oil with a cloth. You may see some leakage as well, its just the excess oil. If its still smells, leaks after a week than bring it back and tell them to change the filter again, and give you a free oil service in the future to make up for your time.

Thanks guys. I will drive it for one more day and if it still smells or leaks, I will take it back to the dealer. I only went to the dealer thinking they can do a better job. Blah. Another negative was that they washed my car in their crappy car wash.
