Automatic transmision reliability?

Hey,

Currently in the market for my gf to get a new car. I have a TL and heard some of the horror stories of the TL's automatic tranny. Are the TSX's plagued with this as well? I did a quick search but didn't come up with anything negative.

Thanks in advance

04 Tsx, using Sport Shift 80% around 65000km, not problem at all.

It's quite solid. There's been the odd failure here and there but no pattern of it like with the TL. The 6mt is one of the smoothest transmissions made if you can get her to go for that.

hehe i have the 6MT on my TL, but she wont budge, so it looks like it would be the auto...

There are 8 08's in my area, and they are trying to get them off their lot as fast as possible. How much should one pay for an 08 since the 09's are out?

Thanks for your comments!

Just changed my transmission oil @ 30,000 miles. Shifts are Smooth as butter.

My friend made a comment about how much our TSX Sequential Sportshift is smoother than BMW's 3 series tiptronic. After riding in a 3 series, I can totally agree with his statement.

As for reliability, I'm sure keeping good maintenance and avoiding unnecessary stress to the transmission, it will run for the life of the car.

great! this makes me feel much better.

These responses kind of threw me off guard. Over in the TL forums, some people are running around like chickens with their heads chopped off with their automatics, but it looks like this isn't the case in the TSX forums

She isn't a lead foot person, and keeping the car maintained wont be an issue. Looks like tomorrow we are going to go test drive it and see how she likes it.

Thanks again for the input. In the meantime I am going to go price hunting around here to see what a good price would be.

If you intend to change your transmission fluid every 2 years, then your transmission will stay smooth for long. So far, the worst I have seen is a 4 year old transmission with old fluid becoming jerky at low speed. After the fluid was changed, the transmission was smooth again.

I got a 2008 Auto w/ Navi for $26,200 + TTL a few weeks backs. The ones without Navi were going for about $25,700 at that time, so I figured the Navi option was worth $500. The pickings are getting slim on 2008's, but if you may get lucky and find a dealer who just wants to get rid of their remaining ones at a great price.

To answer your original question, the auto with sportshift has been great for me.

I've been on this board since 2004 and I don't recall reading about any failed ATs.
