Another TSX traded in

Well, I had a little bit of a love/hate relationship with my 6MT/CG TSX; the rattles that the dealer just could not seem to fix, the recall notices, and lack of power all added up and I traded her in. I picked up a brand new 04 Black/Red GTO for $24k. What do you guys think.

Wow...they're really giving those GTOs away these days...

Lemme know how it drives, especially in the snow. I would really like to see if it would be worth my money to just get rid of the TSX and pick up a GTO instead. 350hp is quite tempting...

Well, my TSX was lowered so kind of apples to oranges but..........man this thing drives sweet!!!! Comfortable, almost plush, yet still connected to the road. Of course the six speed isn't quite as nice as the TSX and the clutch is heavy, but hit the gas and you're gone. Also the interior is great: nice leather, dual power seats, better system than the TSX and very solid, not one rattle.

Hmm...do you feel that the interior materials are up to your expectations?

Well I really wasn't expecting much at all due to the Pontiac badge. The interior blows away my expectations and I would say that it can compete with the best. I guess since this thing is actually a Holden from Australia, the normal rules don't apply.

The new gto's look nice and they do have a lot of power. Good luck with them, i love the matching gauges on the inside and the colored interior treatment.

Congrats. The shifter on those things feels like the proverbial screwdriver-in-a-bucket-of-rocks, IMO... but the rest of the car is sweet. It's got my favorite GM interior (a dubious honor), and you can't beat it for $24k. Nice choice.

Hmm...interesting to hear. Just out of curiosity, which dealer did you buy from? I think I'll take a look at one this Friday.

Recall notices? I only got one, and it was for a flimsy wire cable in the trunk. Something anyone could have looked at themselves...

Some people are really odd.

The GTO lost a comparo in Car and Driver against the Mustang I believe R&T also didn't like it compared to the Mustang. They said the styling was boring. I however like it MUCH better and I think it's finally a good-looking GM car with simple lines yet attractive. Plus it's Australian, and Top Gear really liked it too. Good to see you're enjoying it.

Wow, with that kind of TIV you should have posted on here first I'm sure someone would have purchased your used TSX for the numbers.

I can't get below $27,000 for a GTO using Edmunds.com invoice price, and taking $3500 customer rebate and $500 military rebate.

How'd you knock off an extra $3000?

Buy yourself a Southwest ticket to Motown - PontiCrack dealers will trip over themselves to make a deal with you.

BTW - did you know that Aztec means Ass Crack en espanol?

You traded the TSX because of minor problems in for a GTO!!!???

And you don't expect to have worst problems? Granted, you will have more power, but the sacrifice for it isn't too much worth it IMO.

Well, good luck and come back to post up a list of your problems with the GTO in a year and a half.

That Pontiac dealer must have been desperate - gave him a good deal on trade in and the new GTO.
If I were in the maket I'd pay 22K for a gently used 6MT TSX.

I'm gonna check out the local Pontiac dealer this weekend to see just how desperate they are and if they are desperate enough, I might just consider a similar move. Gotta test drive that GTO first though...

First, what makes you think that I'll have all of these problems?? This car has been around for years in Australia as a Holden Monaro and the kinks are worked out. You should do a little research before jumping to conclusions, I did.

Second, I did not trade in purely for little problems, I also did it for power and overall comfort reasons as I stated.

GM bashing for no reason just seems uneducated.

Us east coasters get 5500 in rebate plus I got 1500 in certificates.

My coworker just got the GTO. Definitely has a lot of umph in that engine and the interior was actually better than I expected for a GM car. I think he paid over 30Gs for it, so you got it for a steal. The only thing that bothers me about the car is that the front dash could be a little more stylish and the exterior is pretty boring, but it definitely looks better than any other Pontiac. I'm assuming people who purchase this car aren't looking for style and more for performance. Either way, if you're happy with the purchase then that's all that matters. Enjoy it!

GM products are not to par with Honda product no matter for how long it has been produced, and whether it is a Holden or not. It's like when they say the Malibu is based on the German Epsilon platform to convince of the quality of the car. It still doesn't make it less of a POS.

There is always a good reason to bash on GM. It's not an uneducated thing. Don't worry, I've had GM in the family, and you're not going to convince me a GM (except for a Corvette) is worth buying over a Honda.

I myself think buying a GM is rather uneducated...

I can't really comment on the build/perf. of the GTO I've never owned one.

But I know they are lot lizards in my area and the combo of...
1. Larger dealer inventory
2. Large GM incentives
3. Higher then avg. warranty claims for the GM brand as a whole...

To me sounds like a combo for low resale value which I take very seriously since I usually finance my purchases and I don't want my loan residual to be higher then market value of the car...it's easy to get upside down in a big 3 car.

I actually have a used GM right now that I purchased used from a friend a few years back....and I'll be glad when it is gone soon and we are a completely Honda brand house hold.......it's been a good car as GM's go, but it can't hold a candle to the Hondas.

I test drove one and man did that thing feel floaty cornering. But all in all I think it's a very attractive package. I, for one, think they look really nice and the power is amazing.

The General has been a case study in mediocrity for the past 30 years...what has Honda done in the same time period? Case closed.

I'd bet the GTO will be one of GM's more reliable vehicles...afterall, it's not made here in America. Further, it wasn't designed by any US GM people.

BTW, like some have said already, the interior on the GTO looks great (especially for a GM). Good luck w/ your rocket Goat
