Alternator Whine

I've been driving my 6MT No-Navi for about a week now. With the heater and radio off, I can hear a very quiet, high-pitched whine from what sounds to be the passenger's side speaker when the engine revs. I'm thinking the alternator isn't grounded properly... is this something anyone else has experienced?

Hello,

I was wondering how high did your revs go? I say this because, V-Tech could be kicking in, check it out.

I don't think VTEC is kicking in because it can happen at revs as low as 2000.

VTEC wouldn't be making a whine like you describe either. The engine just revs a lot louder.

Does this happen while the sound system is turned off?

Yes, I can hear it with the sound off... with the sound on, the whine is too quiet to notice.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't think it's a transmission problem because I've heard this in other cars and the problem was usually improper grounding of the alternator. But, I'll definitely have the dealership check it out. I wasn't sure if anyone else had experienced this or not...

If the power to the sound system is off and you still here the noise, it's highly unlikely that it is RFI from the alternator. That usually occurs when alternator RFI gets into the inputs of the amplifier and is amplified, then sent to the speakers.
