The canadian market also sells the HOnda Civic. The ACura EL is the same car, but they upscaled it with Leather and few luxury items to make it different from the regular Civic.

IMO, the ACura EL is a rip-off....

Great for those who want bragging rights, "I got an Acura!!"

Still, once a Civic, always a Civic.

It's basically a way to get the Civic with leather and nicer wheels. Smaller cars are more popular in Canada.

I think most people were charged between 100 and 200 US for the install. It's actually really easy to install yourself. The directions are here:

directions

They call them underspoilers there, Front, side, and rear.

ive heard that because canadian citizens pay a lot in taxes (healthcare) they have less expendable cash to spend on cars. that would explain the higher prevalence of economy cars up north.

i was following an older couple driving the acura EL the other day, and just figured they rebadged the vehicle to make it more upscale, which at the time i thought was rather tacky. now that i know acura officially makes the car in canada, it changes my perception of the vehicle.... but it is still a tarted up civic.

I think you've pretty well got it.

Economy/small cars are very popular in Canada. Compare the Toronto international car show to the Detroit car show and you'll see what I mean. I'm sure the US has a slightly higher expendable income per capita than Canada but I have a feeling the trend towards economy cars here is more to do with a difference in values between the two countries. The bigger is better mentality isn't as prevalent up here.

Actually, Canada used to not offering Civic EX(US 4 dr model) on Honda line. So if you want the VTEC engine(even it is only a poser VTEC) on a 4 dr Civic than you need to get the EL instead. But now they offer Civic Si Sedan, so I will foresee EL will be dropped soon and TSX become the entry lever 4 dr sedan from Acura Canada.
