Add TPMS to a 2006 TSX?

I got this idea because i was looking to buy the '07 tl key fob and i saw a part for TPMS unit.

I was wondering if that was possible to add, because it seems my front left tire is always low. I fill it up one day then it will lose some air but then stay like that for awhile, so it doesn't seem like a leak because it just stopped.

The display for the TMPS is located in the center of the dash display on the TL. There are TPMS aftermarket units available, but they all have a fairly large dsiplay unit that has to be mounted somewhere around the dash. Adding a TPMS system won't stop whatever leak you have. How much air are you losing? Take your tire/wheel assembly to a reputatable tire dealer and ask him to try and locate the leak and repair it. You could have a leak in the tire valve or a poor seal between the wheel and the bead of the tire or possibly a small puncture in the tire.

isn't it TPMS is just to check your tire pressure and alert you if it's too low?

But sometimes its very useful i had it standard on my mazda3 and never ever worried to chek the pressure , once it turn on the beep and the tpms signal light i truned my car to the dicount tire and yes there was a small puncture and good thing is if i went to work that day i would have wasted half day but tpms alerted me so i went to the shop directly instead heading to job...
yes there are after market kits available from 100 to 300 bucks but worth it if u have the money to spend

TPMS is a nice to have, but it won't make your problem go away.

I agree with sm4d; take your wheel to a good shop and have the problem fixed!

Shit varies. All due to screws/nails. Depends on where you drive.

A flat is obvious. TPMS is good for gas milage.

I drive on roads.

But you are right about gas milage, although benefits aren't outstanding. Every 3 psi down is about a 1% reduction in fuel economy.

However, don't forget the other benefits of proper inflation: improved handling, better braking, improved resistance to hydroplaning, and improved tire life. Oh, and of course reduced risk of catastrophic failure/blowout.

All new vehicles in US must have by September 2007, in case some are unaware.

(Just did a presentation on TPMS)

Cool

And bringing the thread back full-circle, I noticed how quickly the hi-jack commenced....Is there anyway to incorporate the TPMS now available on th '07 TSX on the '06, short of buying an aftermarket dashboard whale?

There should be at 3 components:

1. Air pressure sensors in tires - assuming rims are the same, probably no reason they couldn't be obtained and mounted

2. receiver (for wireless wheel transmitters) - where would that go? How would it connect to the system computer

3. MID control unit - there needs to be control logic in the MID to receive the tie pressure information, properly display it, possibly allow you to change it (ie. thresholds for warning).
Something like the washer fluid level display, which the Canadian version of the TSX provides, I could see already being programmed in the US version (for economy of sharing a common version), but just not enabled. The only way I could see the TSX having TPMS programming already would be if it shared it's control unit with the 06 TL, which has that feature. I doubt this is the case. I'm also not expecting to find out that the MID 'BIOS' could be reflashed like computer BIOS's.

I'd suggest looking at some 06 parts lists to see if #1 and #2 for it can be identified, that might at least give some idea of it's price.

Thanks Jeff for staying on topic. Looks like there is some investigation to do.

I can't speak for sure about the TSX TPMS system, but I'm familiar with the Honda system used on the Pilot/Ody (which likely will be similar). System uses battery powered sensors in the wheels, initiators in the wheel wells that turn the sensors on with a low frequency signal (to conserve sensor batteries) and a control unit under dash that receives radio frequency signals from the 4 wheel sensors. That and the gauge cluster to display tire pressure/system failure info (note that a later model gauge cluster likely will not integrate with an older model veh. in other systems). With the integrated wire harnesses and cost of components, it will be VERY expensive to try and retrofit factory TPMS to an older vehicle.
