Acura Appreciation Event
Acura Appreciation Event
Anybody heard of this Acura Appreciation event from April 3-7, 2006? Apparently Acura owners get a free 45-point inspection. I'm gonna call the dealership tomorrow and see what's up. See link below:

I have recieved a postcard regarding the free checkup but I tossed it in the recycle bin (not interested). It didn't come from the dealer where I purchased the car. Intead, it came from a different dealer where I got a spare key made.
- A thorough 45 point inspection of your Acura's engine, brakes, drivetrain, suspension, and steering components
- A detailed diagnostic report on your Acura's condition
- Complimentary Oil and Filter Certificate to be used on your next visit
Free oil change?

Hmmm....... Acura Appreciation Event...
They appreciate you by giving you the free inspection and then in turn they appreciate you even more by saying... "Oh you need to have this, this, this, and this done.... Chaaaaa Ching!"
I suppose it is a nice gesture on there part. Just watch out though!

My flier came in a week after I scheduled my 15k service.. sucks cause my service is already tomorrow and that promotional thing dont kick it in till April...if I waited till April for my service..I'd be waayy over my miles for service... It wouldn't make sense if i I had my car serviced now then go back next month to get the free crap..

Oh I use Slickdeals.net to look for bargains on everything. By browsing the website, I've managed to get a $50 Samsung laser printer, $25 160 GB SATA hard drive, $10 Logitech bluetooth headset, a lot of free food, and many other things.
I called up my dealer and they told me it's mainly for older cars (<2002), and I'll be wasting my time taking my car in....
so does the free oil&filter certificate thing hold true? If so I'm going to try to get it or take the car in anyway....

More and more dealers are using this tactic. Of course, if they didn't see any benefit to get more money from you, they wouldn't do it.
Most likely, they are hoping that bringing you on the lot will:
1. Have you check out the new cars
2. Have maintenance performed
The sad part of some of these so-called promotions is the fact that some of their salepeople and service advisors are pressured very heavily to rape you. I remember test driving at Mitsubishi back in the 90's when they gave me a promotion for "free oil and filter change with test drive of one of our new models." The saleperson couldn't take no for an answer. I found out later through Edmunds.com that some salemen can actually get fired for X amount of test drives without a sale.

I just got back from the dealer. April 3 - 7 is Acura Appreciation Event. You do not even need the flyer from the mail to get a free 45-point inspection. Just call up your service person and schedule an appointment. The inspection takes about 30 min + 15 min if you want the complimentary car wash.
I'm getting my OEM bodykit installed that day so I might as well get the inspection. I asked if the inspection includes a free oil change. They said no and did not mention anything about a voucher to get an oil change done in the future.
Like others have said, this is a marketing tool for the dealer to tell you that there is something wrong with your car when there is not. I have 6800 mi on my car. I highly doubt the inspection will come up with any problems.

My dealer already does free oil changes and this is just a tactic to get more people into the dealership so they can tell you what they want to fix for you and take your money.

I took my car in on Friday for the 45-point inspection at Sierra Acura. Upon arrival, the personnel at the service department went over their service record and "kindly reminded" me that I did not bring in my TSX for the engine oil change at 10,000 and 15,000 mile and tire rotation at 10,000 mile. It wasn't any pressure or hassle. I just told him that I DIY the oil change and brought TSX to a tire place for free tire rotation.
The 45-point inspection is not very extensive. I saw the check list and about half of the item is on the exterior of the car, lights, mirror, window...etc stuff like that. I received a couple for free oil change. The best part is they adjust the tension on the clutch -- apparently it was too tight, and I did not realize it and thought it was part of DBW system.
After the adjustment, my 1-2 shift is clearly smoother than before.
