Accord vs TSX

I just went down to the Honda dealer and drove a 05 Accord. OK car, not as nice as the TSX. A 42 month lease on a TSX has about 60% residual and a lease for the Accord has less then 40% residual. Can that be right? Is there really 20% difference in these cars after 42 months?

The Acura's really hold their value well. The Honda's are exceptionally good for a non-luxury mark. However, that 60% number seems high...

That sounds a little off to me. I suspect the TSX should hold its value well, because it is a relatively rare car and it is selling briskly. The Accord may not be doing as well right now because there are 400,000 of them sold a year, and there is steep discounting. Also, family-type sedans don't always do well on the resale market. But, all that not withstanding, Honda vehicles all hold their value pretty well. I think the Accord would be a pretty smart move, if you like driving it and would be happy with it.

Another thing to note is that the Accord Coupe holds its resale MUCH better than the sedan.

As somebody who traded in two Accord Coupes, I did not find that to be the case. Both vehicles held their value quite nicely. But, at the time I sold, Sedans from the same year were going for a bit more.

Of course, all that might have changed in recent years. The Accord has basically gone form being a low volume upscale sporty compact to a mainstream midsized family sedan.

I was thinking of the current generation. I wanted to buy a used 2003 and couldn't get a decent price anywhere compared to the sedans.

Well, as I said, things may be different now. With this generation, and the last generation, the coupes have become more sporty. The Accord Coupe almost has the place in the Honda line that the Prelude used to have. Sporty vehicles do tend to hold their value well. So, I would not be surprised if you were correct.

I think all Accords regardless likely hold their value better then any other family sedan, it's the bench mark for the rest.

mjferguson your leasing resale is kind of meaningless to you. basically you need money down and a monthly payment--who cares about the residual.

Did you check out the Mazda6? Leases right now are running $2000 down $199mo. I just saw an ad for this.

We have the 04 LX coupe and a TSX.
I am really impressed with the accord vs my TSX.
When the money matters you can't go wrong with the Accord.

Our 3 years lease, on about 19k msrp, is $10,000 residual.
Not bad, we will buy it in 3 years.
