444mile trip....read this!!!!

I went 444miles between gas stops this weekend from Cleveland Ohio to Williamsport PA. The trip computer history tells me that my average MPG was 35.1 and my average speed was 78.1mph.

Yes i was flying the whole trip (radar detector and some random drivers who also wanted to go fast), and yes it was 100% all highway miles (my buddy lives 1 mile off the highway).

I really probably averaged about 85mph for the whole trip but 2 huge construction zones really slowed my travel.

The 35.1 was the BEST I have ever gotten. In fact my MPG actually seemed to get better the faster i went. I started the trip doing about 78mph and i was only getting in the 32mpg range.....when i actually set the cruise on 85 my MPG started to increase. The only mod I have done is I dropped in a K&N replacement filter (no cold air intake, just regular filter).

Moral of the story what 200HP car looks this good, drives this good, and gets this kind of gas mileage!!!! I LOVE MY TSX!!!!!

OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! to me. that is a motivation to drive in a style that save gas, not the gas price!!!

I drove from Los Angeles to San Francisco straight, I average 30 MPG exactly... but i was doing 95-100 miles per hour all the way! so keep it under 80 like him and you can do better than me!

Pretty good, but the trip computer is not accurate at all. Ideally you shouldl manually calculate the mpg.

well i could have been at the 500mile club....i had lots of gas left........the thing was I had to stop because the gas was only 2.99 a gallon.......every other station was 3.29 or more....so the 444 was not my limit....

You do realize that our mpg meter is off by a little over 2 mpg. Which, puts you at 33, which is still really good.

Not necessarily, if it's all highway miles, it has a good chance of being more accurate for me. I calculated to the decimal point the exact same gas mileage the trip computer came up with on my last highway trip.

I've had 38-mpg on the Ohio-Indian I-80/90 turn pike with our TSX auto.
Did 70mph with cruise the entire trip followed cars and trucks, filled up in Cleveland, before we hopped on the pike. Filled up again just before we got off, checked the mileage by hand, was amazed....my second best MPG ever. Best being in my Accord manual.

That's great!

I'm pretty sure the weather condition was to your advantage, cause going that fast and achieving those MPG, are quite hard to do.

I dont know about that. Every tank I have gotten has been approx 2 mpg leess than what the computer shows me.
Even on my 20mpg tanks and I have had 1 28 mpg gallon tank.

Don't get me wrong, it's more inaccurate than not, I just had one tank where I calculated 33.4, and that's exactly what the navi said too. It was one of my few all-highway trips, so I don't have many to show for it.

Whoa, that's excellent. Even if the trip computer if off, you probably were getting more than 32 miles/gallon which is great.

If you have aftermarket wheels and tires of different size than stock, they could easily account for that much error due to actual outside diameter compared to the stock setup.

PS: we just got back and now I'm sorry I didn't check my TSX milage on our vacation trip. Phila suburbs to Toronto is about 450 miles each way. I was crankin along pretty good the whole way, hardly ever under 80mph but not over 90, except slower for two short construction areas. Just based on not stopping for gas much, we definitely had the impression we were getting great milage ...until that NY trooper stopped me saying he had to go "way over 80 in a 65" to catch me. I recommended that next time they buy TSXs instead of Fords and he just gave me a warning, probably in gratitude for the good advice

how does the TSX tell you your exact MPG? or did you just take your Miles per tank total and divide by 17 gallons ?

the computer is notoriously inacurate for this. THere are several threads on the subject.

No you take how many miles you drove and divide by the number of gallons you put in. Mine averages about 14.5-15 gallons.

Acura says the fuel tank is exactly 17.1 gallons but does that include reserve? if not, then I assume the actual full tank is 18 gallons?

because my old honda civic '96 says 11.2 gallon tank..but i have driven to 11.6gallon!!! i know this because I filled up that much...and later i was told the actual tank for my civic is 12gallons including reserve .

I think 17.1 is with reserve. If you take it down directly to the E, it's only like 15-15.5 gallons that I end up filling up with afterwards.

Actually, it doesn't include the reserve. I believe the reserve is worth about 2.8 more gals, bringing the total tank capacity to 19.9 Gals. I would say by experience that there is about 19.25 gals of useable gas in the tank. Tops.
