2007 TSX Manual Trans. 3000rpm @ 70mph
I just got my 2007 TSX w/ MT, and a little concern about seeing rpm rev up to 3000 at 6 gear around 70mph. Does anyone know if this is normal?
Thx.
Thx.

If the rpms were lower than that, you'd have even less power than you already do at 3000 rpm, and you'd have trouble up hills and for passing. The mileage is still quite good and the engine is designed to rev high, so I think it's reasonably designed.

It sucks for me, my exhaust is loudest between 2500 and 3500 rpms so everytime i go up a hill in 6th the exhaust drowns out everything, even the radio at a reasonable volume. I picked up some quiet tips last summer though and it makes it whisper quiet, but I often forget to put them in before long trips.

anyhoo, why is 3000 rpm at 70 a big deal? i have owned cars (particularly vw's) that run higher than that.

I agree the gearing in the 6 speed could use some work, but the smoothness and quietness of the engine makes the 3000 RPM thing pretty seamless in my opinion. I can see how it might be annoying though with really loud exhaust.

2006 and 2007 have the same engine, so these are applicable

It's good to know it is normal for TSX. But it wish it could be done better on the 6th gear for better mileage.

The 5th gear in the TSX is pretty much useless considering how short the 6th gear is.
You can literally switch from 3rd to 6th even during normal driving without noticable engine lug.
This is extremely helpful when it comes to achieving best acceleration at high-rpms and falling back in the power-range after switching gears, but I'm not sure how many people race their stock TSX at speeds above 100mph(that's the only place a short 6th gear would come in handy)
just to make you think how short the 6th gear is here's a fact:
You can cruise in 6th gear while travelling at only 30mph!!!! I've done it and it causes no lug!
Even my civic would have trouble cruising at 30mph in 5th(not 6th!) gear.

For those complaining about how short our 6th is, be thankful. The RSX-S guys are swapping to our "taller" 6th all the time.
