2006 quick review and ?'s

The first thing that struck me was the HORRIBLE WHEELS they put on this car. Really, what guy thought that these new wheels were cool???

The HP increase doesnt seem to be much(205hp), but how would the 04/05 rate with the new rating system?

A fatter steering wheel? Why?

Why change the fog lights to that horrible location. You make the stance look NARROWER by doing that.....if they were smart just leave the bumper the same and INCLUDE standard foglights.

The rear end view....my first thoughts were TOYOTA CAMERY.....God i hate that car...

the positives that I did like were the memory seat, bluetooth, and the new updated navi.

All in all....My 2004 is still amazing and this 06 doesnt even make me think about trading it in for a new one!!

new rating system, over all these years. japanese and german have 2 diferent rating system, hard to explain in detail, but its safe to say that every GERMAN car thats rated 95 horsepower, it equals to a Japanese car that is rated to be 100 horsepower. Short sentence, thats why people say German HP are greater than Japanese HP.

So the new increase of mere 5 HP on TSX in this new rating is more like an increase of 10-15 HP over the old system, so in current term, the new TSX would be somewhere around 210 to 215 HP. compare to our 200 HP.

Just look at this issue of Road and Track, the RL has dropped from 300-290 HP, and TL has dropped from 270 to 258 HP. its a drop due to different rating system, not actual drop in HP.

- Wheels suck, yes.

- Its about a 10-12 HP increase over the 04/05's.

- This site had several complaints on how thin the steering wheel was. A thicker wheel is a welcome change IMO.

- Looks are subjective. although I don't care for the styling changes either.

- Why do we need another 2006 thread?

While I agree a German HP is worth more than a Japanese HP the new SAE rating system has absolutely nothing to do with how the Germans rate their cars. To the best of my knowledege only GM, Honda and Toyota have gone through the trouble of re-rating their entire lineup to reflect the new SAE net system. Ford and Chrysler will use the rating from now on on their new engines only.

Euro makes have not yet adopted the SAE net rating.

Just wondering...

Do you guys really care so much about such gadgets like the bluetooth or memory seat?

When you are not the only one that always drive your car, you will love the memory seat.

I don't see the value in those items at all. I already have a Bluetooth headset with my V3, and memory seats are useless since I'm the only driver. Aux Input, I can get for less than $150. Even if with dealer employee cost (which I paid for my 05), I wouldn't get an '06 for the increase in price.

I'm 5'7". My girlfriend is 5'10" and leggy. I would LOVE a memory power driver's seat, so I didn't have to adjust everything back every time I got in the car.

I agree that the new wheels aren't great. Actually they're very plain. The old wheels aren't great looking either. The Accord V6 Coupe wheels are hot though.

You're wrong about the fog lights make the car look narrower. I don't know what you mean by stance - you didn't put it in the right context. The lower placement of the grill gives the appearance that the car is lower than the 04 and the wider opening of the bumper and grill gives the appearance that the car is wider. So to review, the new front makes the car look lower and wider than before. The older bumper opening has a flat face, the new one curves around more giving it better visual flow.

And what's with the ranting. Just don't buy a new one. It's not like anybody is forcing you to buy it. Sounds like you're trying to convince yourself that you made a wise purchase buying the first year of a model. You think the 04 is better than the 05 as well? If so, you have issues.

A few comments:

1. If I remember correctly, there were a number of members commenting that the steering wheel was a bit "girly" in girth.....

2. I personally like certain aspects of the new bumper..... First, the grille is very wide--almost touching the headlight clusters. Second, I never really liked how the foglights looked on the 04-05 model....it really looked like an add-on, as the fit never looked "factory" and the moulding around it was not body coloured. Having said that, I think they could have pushed the foglight housings out a bit more to make the slots on either side "look" like those brake vents on supercars...

3. How does this new back end (which doesn't look much different than the old one) look more like a Camry than the old one!? From the pictures I've seen, the only real thing that changed is the reverse lights have been "smoked"?

A couple of comments not based on the original post:

1. I don't think the Italicized font on the guages is that bad....it's suble enough as to not reduce readability too severely.

2. Glad they kept the so called "zero-degree" guages....I thought they were one of the cooler aspects of the whole instrument pod.

3. Glad they gave the car the Info Centre screen like in the TL....that huge space in between the guages was screaming for such a display, rather than having just a normal LCD numerical readout.

4. Memory seats are a good idea. There have got to be some occasions when you'd need to reset your seats back to "normal"....even if you don't have a person that regularly drives your car (think valet or service techs who had to adjust your seat in order to drive your car to wherever).

5. While I think the additional power is a good thing, I don't think it was necessary....I mean, when you really sit back and think about it, 205HP should be more than enough for anyone.....I mean, 90HP 10+ years ago was lots. Yes, I understand the aspect that "but that dork in the Bimmer has 300HP and can beat me off the stop light"....but really, who the heck *should* really care?

I origninally planned to get an '05 this summer, but certain circumstances mandated that I wait until the spring... which means I'm getting an '06. I'm sure I'll be happy with my purchase.

I think having the BT handsfree would be very nice. This way, I could save my BT headset for home and not have to carry it around along with my phone.

As for the memory seats, since I am the driver of my car 99% of the time, it doesn't really concern me, though on the last road trip I took with my gf, switching the driving duty back and forth between us meant a lot of adjusting and that was kind of annoying. The memory seats would definitely have been appreciated then.

Right

The upgrades might be worthwhile to some, but not to others. I'm stuck with nextel till next October, so no bluetooth. Nobody else drives my car, so screw memory seats. If i'm going to a nice restaurant, I ususally know where i'm going ahead of time and don't need the Zagat guide. Wouldn't mind the extra power, but with the CAI it should be about equal. My navi processor is fast enough for me.

It's different for everyone, for me 04>06 cause i like the 04 styling better. But i can see why someone would think that the 06>04-05

Motohip........I agree with you. If they don't like the new car and already own last years model...then it's a done deal, consider yourself lucky that you got the car you like. I have an 02 RSX-S that I like but I don't scrutinize all of the other model years to see whats better.....they are all the same car. We should all be glad that they made some minor changes and really did not screw up the looks of the car. Imagine what we're in for next year when the really big changes are suppose to happen........Yikes!!!

As it stands right now 05's > 04/06's. Best styling and most of the 04 bugs were worked out + a few additions.

Then again, 05's can't get Hondata so 04 > *

And the green key ring > *

I think this might have been covered b4 but what amounted to those increase in HP. I know they changed some thing as far as size of intake/header/manifolds or whatnot.(i'm a newb with internal workings of the car). Does this mean that basically it is the same car with Acura made "aftermarket" mods? Meaning, can an 04/05 do the same thing and accomplish this gain, or is the HP something that the 04/05 cant gain no matter what b/c of a "newly" designed powertrain.

MTLer,
I think the biggest change is the larger diameter of the throttle body. I still wonder if the 2006 will have a higher redline too since the peak HP is now 7000 versus 6800 rpm. I see that hondanews.com is saying it is still 7100 rpm, but that might be stale '05 data (because I've seen that before on the website).

I didn't like the wheels when I first saw them in the small grainy pic scanned from a magazine, but after I saw better pics (like this one ) I can say I like them more then the old wheels. IMO the old wheels were too vanilla -- they weren't sporty but the weren't upscale either. These new ones are definitely upscale so they're better then those bland 7-spokes. That being said, I think I still might prefer the TL wheels on the TSX.
