2004 TSX air condition problem

My 2004 tsx is blowing warm air when i turn on the a/c. The compressor comes on, I moved around relays and checked fuses. I had some on check if charging is needed. He vacuumed and add freon which it takes but its not blowing cold. No leaks either. My wife loves driving this car but not this issue is making it hard.

You may have a blend door issue. If you have dual temp control try to see if one side can cool. If one side cools, the air mix motor may be defective on hot side. If both sides are blowing same temp and temp can be adjusted to hot, this is unlikely the problem.

Also check the low pressure (large line) at the engine side firewall. It should be very cold and sweating if in humid conditions. If not, then you may have an expansion valve problem. Only way to know is to measure system pressures; low high side (<125 psi) and high low side (> 50 psi) pressures would indicate expansion valve not closing enough. Not a frequent problem but expansion valves do go bad occasionally. Exp valve would have to be replaced to repair,...a fairly tough job.

good luck

Thanks. The low pressure line does not sweat or get cold. I called the dealer to see if there is a recall since i found info on a class action suit regarding the a/c problems. I'm going to have my friend shop check the expansion valve. Will update..

I dropped off the car yesterday, the mechanic order a pressure sensor from the dealer which he advise is the issue and will be installed tmo. He said it parts and labor will be around $100 give or take. Will update tmo when i pick up car. I will also get the exact name of the sensor.

I hope he's right, but based on your description the compressor was running. A bad pressure switch would disable the compressor completely. Maybe you misinterpreted an engaged compressor?

good luck

Air conditioner is good. The issue was the compressor. Although it came on when a/c was turned on it was not strong enough. He realized when he rev the car high it would start getting cool but not when idling or driving normal. Once he replaced compressor everything was ok. Total cost was $400 parts and labor. The pressure sensor went bad due to low pressure coming from compressor over time. He test and showed me both defective parts.

Thanks for followup. I've never heard of low performing compressor, but a scroll compressor is quite different from axial piston compressor.

good luck

My 1998 Honda Passport had the same exact problem.
