2004 TSX - Access Wires for Power Source

HI there

Im trying to wire my XM radio power supply into the back of the 12V power supply that is located under the storage bin beside the red "this is not an ashtray" coin holder.

I dont know if this is the best (easiest) place to hardwire the power for the radio so if anyone has comments about that please let me know

So far ive been able to remove the bigger storage bin and removed the 2 screws which seem to hold the top of the lower bin. But there seems to be something holding on the the bottom. The only thing i can see is the plastic plate which is for the gear shift.

This is where im stuck. how would i get the lower bin out so i could tap into the wires for the power source?

Again not sure if this is the easiest or best way to do this. please let me know what you think!

Thanks in advance

Regards

Swandive

Check out the audio/video forum. They'll be able to help you out there.

You have to take off the center console trim, the piece around the gear shift and cup holder, to get at the other 2 screws. Its a bitch to get off and I ended up breaking some of the tabs on mine. Def look for an easier way, grab an accessory wire under the dash or something.

I just did this exact mod (added XM to my '04) less than a week ago. I used two add-a-circuits and ran those right to the fuse box in the driver's footwell. By tapping into the fuse box directly, I avoided tapping into any wires at all. I also didn't have to remove that bottom storage bin which I for the longest time thought I needed to do. PM me if you have any questions.

Been so long since I did mine, I have no idea which wire I tapped. Just found one that was hot when the ignition was on. Going right to the fusebox will work too. Not completely necessary, but if tapping wires makes you nervous, go for it.

I found the add a circiut thing that Fast1 mentioned but am still having a problem. I probably dont know enough about car wiring and thats why im running into this problem.

I wired up the radio using the add a circut. I ran the hot wire into the fuse box and then grounded the other wire where i found a bolt that was attached to the frame of the car. The problem i found was that the new circuit was alway on. No matter the key position. The Power Source Fuse plugs in the car seem to be "switched power" but as soon as i tapped into that fuse with the add a circuit the new circuit is always on.

I hope im making sense here. Can anyone exlplain what im missing here?

Thanks

The fuse you tapped is probably always hot. Which one did you tap?

i tapped into the Front Accessory Circuit. I did manage to find a wiring diagram for my car and it shows that this circuit is hot until after the fuse. So i guess ill have to start probing around with the volt meter until i find one thats not. I guess the wiring diagram should show me that too

I'm gonna assume you tapped #9 then? Seems like a good choice to me, sounds like it is for the cig lighter plugs, which on my 06 turn off when the key is off. Don't know why that fuse would be constant hot. #5 (Audio Amp) seems like a logical choice, or #32 which is just "ACC" should both be off when the car is off, though I am only guessing. If you have a multimeter, check them first. Oh, and make sure you put the right fuse in the right spot on the add-a-fuse thing lol. I had a hard time figuring it out when I did mine.
