By the way, for those that couldnt be bother to click on a link about a Kia...here is the part I found most interesting.

An old high school buddy of mine used to say that his Dodge sedan really should have had "MotoMaster" badges on it, because there were more parts in it from Canadian Tire than from Dodge.

Similarly, in today's car making business, suppliers play in increasing role. Maybe the Caravan minivan should have a "Magna" badge on it somewhere, since all of the interior parts, and a lot of the underlying components, come from the Magna network of companies.

The sophisticated supplier network for the automobile industry also means just about anybody can create a credible entrant in just about any market segment it wants.

So, assuming you can weld steel panels together, you can get ABS from Bosch, air conditioning from Nippondenso, transmissions from ZF (or, if you're BMW, General Motors), air bags from Autoliv, seats from Lear, etc., patch the bits together, and get a reasonable facsimile of a luxury car.

After all, that's not far off what the big names in the luxury car business do now.

The trick is: how well are the individual bits integrated into a whole? Make your own symphony orchestra metaphor here.

Just about every automaker subs work out to more efficient companies. That's how they drive the prices down on their cars. My company tries to stay as far away as possible from automotive work because they are such a pain in the ass to deal with.

ok, i think i might be missing the point that you guys are talking about, but about the car itself..i have to say, korean cars sorta suck....and i myself AM korean, so please, i'm not saying that in an offensive way, or at least i dont mean it in that way. I've never liked hyundai, or kia, or daewoo. think about the manufacturers i just mentioned, and tell me one quality car from there. the new tiburon's are OK, but still nothing great. anyway, as far as this amanti goes, the price is right in the range of the 04 TLs. are you kidding me? 200 HP??! for a car that weights 4000+ pounds?! that's pretty ridiculous. And like the review said, it has a buncha features and whatnot, but mostly just for looks. I think even with a fairly considerable price at 34k, when you look at the other cars around that range (TL, G35, even Maxima and the much cheaper TSX), seems like 34k is just asking too much for the amanti.

Though I agree with 99% of what you said you have to take into account the true transaction cost which will be FAR under MSRP for most Korean cars today, they take the US approach to pricing but to a more extreme level. Still not a "deal" no matter what the price.

Hey folks, the Kia is $34k Canadian, or $26K USD. Price sound familiar? Still not a good deal, imho.
