1st Oil Change

Hello:

I just did my first oil change at 5051 miles. I switched to Mobil 1 and used a honda filter. I bought a Frahm SureDrain but got the wrong thread size for the drain plug. Anyone know the thread size? I really want to install this on my next change. Thanks!

I bought my TSX at Radley Acura in Baileys Crossroads, VA, and get free oil changes for life. The only negative is that to use Mobil 1 Synthetic, I have to buy it myself or pay the dealer $35.00. JW

I believe its a dealer thing whether or not you get oil changes for free or inspections or rotations, Ive heard of those but my dealer mentioned no such thing.

And I have a question - are magnetic oil drain plugs worth getting or not?

I also bought from Radley but did my first oil change on my own. They're kind of far from me but I'm still hesitant. Guess it couldn't be worse than Jiffy Lube.

Same here. The TSX is the second Acura I buy from them so I think they just threw that in as a bonus... Not sure if they do that for everyone because they didn't give me the free oil change cert when I bought my CL-S a few years back.

Ditto. The sales guy gave my first (4K miles) oil change free. So I made the most of it by asking them to switch me to full Synthetic, which listed as a USD$70 job.

Ha! You've got to be kidding.

Not only do we not get any free oil changes, but we get billed $100 for the first one at least (along with a tire rotation/balance).

... we get billed $100 ...
That's why I do it myself .
This way I know what kind of oil is in my engine and I know it's done right.
And I get 4 oil changes as opposed to 1 from a dealer

Dealer provided 1st oil change (at 5k miles) for free. I paid ~$80+ for the 10k service which included the normal checklist (tire rot., fluid checks, oil, etc.). I just got my oil changed at 15k miles and it cost me $27+, which was lower than most other places near me.

One thing I was little upset was that they put in 5W-20's instead of normal 5W-30's on my first and second oil changes. I asked for an explanation and they told me that it was only a computer/paper record mistake... and that they always put in what is recommended for the vehicle in actual. I give them benefit of the doubt, but I will be doing my own oil change from here on... only way I can be sure.

Do you know if that applies to any dealership? My dealer (Acura of North Toronto) told me I get the first two oil changes free but my second one I want to take it to Erin Mills since it's more convenient. Also, when I saw one of their service guys drive an Integra dukes of hazard style into the garage didn't really inspire my confidence either
