'09 Cargo Hooks in 1st Gen?

Anyone know if they'll work? I'd seen that the rivet nuts used to anchor them go into preset holes in the frame in the trunk. We have a few in ours, so I'm curious if they're the same size.

Also, can you pick up the "special" rivet nut tool required for installation at a Lowe's or Home Depot?

PS - I assume the cargo hooks for the '08 Accord are the same.

I can't believe they made it so you need to drill holes in the freakin trunk for the cargo net. You know they did it to encourage more people to have the dealer install it, freakin Acura Old 6th gen Accord you just hooked the net right into the trunk, the mounts were already there.

Heh... thanks guys --- I actually already have the 350z cargo net... but I was curious about the cargo HOOKS, LOL

It'll make it easier carrying the groceries in the trunk so that stuff won't be rolling out of the plastic bags

I tried to use my 6gen cargo net on my tsx and when I went to hook it up I couldn't find the hooks.

I agree, that's complete BS. My Mazda had the hooks already installed. As does every other car out there. I really think it should just come with the net standard. I'm not complaining that it doesn't, I just think it should. Why does everybody suggest the 350z net? How does it attach?

At first I thought all of you guys were just being wise-asses, but now I realize that you think I'm referring to the hooks that the cargo net attaches to... I'm not! I'm referring to the accessory cargo hooks that attach to the trunk frame that you can use to hang grocery bags, etc. from...

The absence of cargo net hooks has already been discussed... I'm just interested in whether or not this 2009 TSX / 2008 Accord accessory is compatible with the FRAME holes found in the 1G TSX trunk.

I'm interested in knowing if these cargo hooks would work, too. Here's a photo from the Honda website - looks like it's a $10 accessory:

That's what I said too... but I do know that *some* rivet tools can cost hundreds of dollars --- I'm sure Honda/Acura did this so that you have to get it "installed" at a stealership I didn't want to be the guinea pig on the hooks (after all, it IS only $10), and then not be able to put them in

As for self-tapping screws... sure, that would work... but I'd prefer to not go that route. I guess I was looking for a "convenient" fix, as I don't really want to drill into anything back there (which is also the reason I picked up the 350z net vs. the OEM one)...

I use a bungee cord stratched across the cargo hooks. Makes for keeping bags or a small ice chest from sliding around the trunk tray.

I haven't taken a look at the car -- but sanding the frame to be shinny metal and then gluing in place with BOTH thick CA (to hold in place while the epoxy sets) AND Epoxy Putty (from Ace Hardware) might do the trick.

However, attaching hooks in my truck would not permit me to fill it to the brim as I do when I travel. I do as larryziegler -- I use two different lengths of flat bungee cord (available at Wal-Mart), and two pieces (attached straight and crisscrossed) on the eyes on the floor. Works great for me. The ones I use have plastic 'C' hooks on the ends so that just hook, and unhook, in a half-a-second. I put my ice chest (a mid-sized plastic unit) in one of the rear corners and is held in position by one of the bungee cords.

I just took a look under the parcel shelf. There are plenty of holes already in the sheet metal that you can use to slip a bolt up through and lock down with a nut from above. I'm gonna swing by Home Depot and see what I can find to use as good grocery bag hooks.

^Can you post some pics and maybe some part info? I found myself at Target last night REALLY wishing I had something and REALLY missing the cargo net from my Mazda.

And it's been asked a few times in this thread, but could somebody please explain the whole 350z net? There's a Nissan dealership within spitting distance of my house. I'd really like a net for my TSX, and if that's a good alternative to the Acura one, I'll swing by on my way home and grab it.

Nevermind, I found another thread with pics of the 350z net. For those of you who haven't figured it out yet (like myself) it attaches to the tie downs and is a perfect fit. If you go to the Nissan dealership and they give you a blank look, somebody said something about it being called a "Trunk Convenience Net." That oughta make it a bit easier to find. The DIY that Rocket_man did for the Acura net is outstanding. I might actually try to tackle that this weekend, weather permitting. But the hooks would be nice too.

So you just had to drill the hole larger for the rivet? Will the stud from the hook itself fit through the hole? If so, why not just find a nut to fit it instead of using the rivet?

I figured the nut wouldn't be the issue. I was wondering if the stud from the cargo hook itself would fit through the hole. You mentioned having the drill it for the rivet.

part number is 08L96-TA0-100A for usa or 08L96-TA0-300A for canada and can be bought form acura or honda same part for accord

all that holds it up is a 10mm bolt that goes though the hook and locks into the rivet or you can use a 10mm nut to hold it

They're $11 per hook at the dealership. Probably the cheapest route given there's no shipping costs. I'll stop and snag one on the way to work tomorrow if I remember to leave early enough.

Okay, I lied. They're $10 per hook. $10.63 with applicable sales tax. That, paired with a 6mm nut purchased from the Home Depot (another 31 cents) brings my total to $10.94. The kit from Acura comes with the hook, bolt (which goes through the plastic hook) 1 washer, 1 lock washer, and 1 rivet that you need the tool to collapse. Just discard the rivet and use the nut. You'll need to make one minor modification to the hook. There's a little nub that you'll need to cut off in order to make it flush with the rear deck. The 09 TSX has a mounting location with 2 holes specifically for these hooks. One drilled large enough to accomodate the rivet and another one that the little nub fits into to keep the hook from spinning. I personally think the nub is overkill, but what do I know?

Moral of the story, yes they will work in the 1G TSX, or any other car with a hole in the rear deck large enough to get the bolt through.

Installed with a nut as stated in above post, works great. Just a quick note: On the 2006 rear deck, there's a few holes close enough together (driver side, towards center line of the car) which the "little nub" lines up with the second hole so that no filing / trimming is needed.

^Hmm, might have to look into that. I'm planning on grabbing a second hook next time I'm down by the dealership. I might be changing my mounting location if I can find the right place in the rear deck of my 08.
