06 TSX Sound System
I just noticed it lately that one of the rear speakers on my 2006 TSX is deteriorating. It sometimes cracks when i play it on full volume. This never used to happen previously. Also there is a squeaky noise in the front passenger door speaker, this is kind of prominent. It is noticable when dropping off the call using the bluetooth system and also while playing it on normal volume. This noise is annoying me. I am used to and i like listening to Dance music on high volume between 35-40. Does listening to prolonged volume deteriorate the speaker quality. I know it deteriorates ear quality...lol

I never play the stereo louder than 25, but I thnk one of my tweets in the front drivers side has been blown / defective since i got the car.
06 TSX 5AT NBP.
This is my only complaint / problem with the car - otherwise it is perfect.

Yeah, I don't think the stockers can go that high. Besides, even if it were not too much power for the speakers, the stock amp can distort, and the distortion will help damage the speakers.
The aftermarket speakers I installed are probably not as loud, but I can hear a bit of distortion when I get, oh, in the 37 range. Probably best to not take it that high. I think you can probably get permanent ear damage listening too long at those volumes too; I want to test it sometime (when I find out where I left my sound level meter...).
If you hear distortion, you're either ruining your speakers or your ears or both, I figure.

Its not just that the speakers are bad quality (they are) but the stock amp is too. If you want to listen to music that loud (I understand, I do too, just different music) you really need to get a whole replacement system. Which sadly will run you over 1g installed.
I mean really, the stock radio distorts at about 25. You don't hear this when you crank it up? When you play it over 30, all you're doing is damaging the speakers and not really getting the music any louder.
Save those pennies and replace the amp and speakers. Whenever I get around to it, I plan on running some full signal speaker wires to the rear deck to replace the 6x9s with full range speakers as well.

I bet all of you have it set to a + on both bass and treble and its not really good for the speakers. I do a lot of mastering and know a good a good mix when i here it and adding more bass and treble is not the Idea.. See when i mix down a song I as well as other engineers we mix it so that the sounds translate to different types of setups and always sounds balanced. I never touch the treble on my radio it stays at 0 and my bass is at -3 -4 -5 depending on music genre and volume. my volume is usually at 25, 30, 35, I rarely pass 35 unless the cd is recorded low.
when i installed my subs i left the treble alone and lowered the bass all the way down to -6 and volume at 37. then I adjust my bass amp so that when i play a hip hop song with a lot of bass it will sound loud enough to give me a massage but the mids and highs are a little louder than the bass.. now when i put on a rock cd i could just adjust the bass from the radio and leave the amp alone... till this day i havent had a problem with my speakers....

dude if you had any idea of sound quality and listen to a tsx at volume 30 you'd be running to the hills to replace the stock system. don't lecture us on sound. no i don't really mess with the bass/treble but if I really wanted to i'd get a real eq module.

35-40?
When I replaced my speakers with the Avincar's I played a CD at 28 just to test them out and I thought my head was going to
I usually listen at 15 around town and about 18 on the fwy. (stupid loud OEM tires).

It probably sounds great on a 4-track Fostek cassette mixer.

The stock TSX head unit isn't a bad one. From what I remember reading the signal is actually quite clean. There is an artificial "loudness" boost at low volume which goes away above the 20 setting on volume. The OEM amp isn't very powerful so the OEM speakers use smaller, neomodium magnets, and are higher efficiency to compensate for the lack of power. The OEM speakers aren't of very good quality either. At very high output you're likely driving the amp near, or into, clipping which will give you very poor sound quality. Same goes for the speakers, at very high power input the speakers will distort and sound like crap. So, there are two options.
If you want better sound quality but listen at moderate volume levels, replacing the speakers with higher quality ones will give you that. If you want better sound quality and high volume you can still stick with the OEM HU but you'll need to add/replace an amp and replce the stock speakers.

Everybody chill out. Especially TSX420J. No need for name calling. There is good discussion in this thread and I don't want to lock it. Lets not devolve into insulting each other.
The point that was made is that in an ideal environment there should be no need for boosting trebble or bass if you want to listen to the music in the way that the mixing engineer intended for it to be heard. The car is not that ideal environment and so you have the trebble and bass controls to adjust for that. But, if you like bass and crank your setting to +5 then you should have no illusions that that is the way its supposed to sound. That is they way you want it to sound.

Wow, I'm surprised at the volumes you people listen to. If my windows are all closed, the volume rarely goes above 10 on CD or ~15 on aux. With windows open and traffic noise, then those numbers go up to ~15 and ~25.

They replaced my front tweets, so yes they will. But they are crappy speakers, gotta get new ones for mine and some dynomat for the doors as my panels rattle like crazy. Listening to high notes on rock music (like Tool, Mars Volta, and some Godsmack) and everything rattles with the high notes.

I think it depends on your dealer, the relationship you have with them, and how long you've had the car. If its only a few months old they probably will replace the speaker. If its a couple of years old I think they would hesitate more.
