06/07 TSX Vs 07 Altima

I was chatting with my friend the other day and talked about the new 07 Altima, we found out that it also has a lot of stuff like TSX but even cheaper!! It also has a 3.5L V6 trim option that produce 270HP/258 torque. It all sounds pretty good to me.

So just wanted to hear from you guys and see which one is better. Any of you or your friends have one? Hows the handling, ride, exerior, interior etc?

The Altima SE-R Seems intimidating, yet I'd never buy one.

By just looking at the specifications, The 07 Altima seems to be better than the TSX. Bigger engine, same amount or even more features and options, lower price, roomier Etc But i always hear people complaining about the ride, handling, shifting, the use of Navi, reliability issues etc for the previous models. So i was just wondering if anyone had test drove the 07 Altima and TSX and compare them. See if the 07 model is worth buying over the TSX.

refinement vs. numbers. Older model vs. Newer model. I still think Altimas gawdy looking and I can't see myself driving one.

I'd take a Camry Sport edition before I'd buy the Altima.

I used to own a 05 altima - I wouldnt say the handling was sloppy but i cant say its as tight as the TSX. If some better tires came on the stock altima it would be alot closer to the TSX in handling, but i still think the TSX would win. In stock form (and NON SE-R form) the altima does handle like a larger sedan, but i would say on average (for >06) the handling was better than most for a sedan.

Now on the 07 i cant really coment, I stopped by the dealer this weekend to look at the car and its a great looking new car. I wouldve test drove one but they had their only two on the show room floor and i didnt feel like going thru the hassle, figured i would just go back in a few weeks.

So, you've never actually tried to use the Altima MT; are you 7' tall? If the 07 is like the 06, it's easier to use your elbow for the 1-2 shift in the Altima, but it's very difficult to use your elbow going from 2nd to 3rd; the shifter is located way too far back for my 5'3" wife, or 5'11" me.

haven't driven the '07 but it does look a lot better than the previous gen, which i thought looked nice when it came out. also the interior looks a lot nicer too, but since i haven't seen it in person, i dunno what kind of quality it is.

but the car is bigger and i remember the previous gen feeling quite heavy. i'd prefer the camry se v6 too. but the se-r is quite intriguing.

Thumbs down Altima

It wasn't that long ago when the Altima was an entry level car. Just because they threw some luxury amenities in doesn't make it a luxury car, ergo, it cannot be compared to our TSXs, which are acknowledged luxury cars.

If I wanted a huge powerful engine and no gas mileage I would have gotten a car with a huge engine and little gas mileage. They're just not the same to be comparing them with each other as to which is "better". IMHO

true, but i can still see how people may want to cross-shop the two cars since the price is roughly in the same area.

Altima has never been an entry level car, Sentra was... now it's Versa

i was considering Altima for it's CVT transmission, but after reading about reliability of older models it was out of the list

The '07 Altima is actually very nice. I wouldn't be surprised to find one in my garage in a few weeks.

It might surprise you that the Altima 3.5SE gets 22mpg city/30mpg highway. That's identical to the TSX.

Oh yes mate, with V6 engine from nissan, you probably spend more money on gas than maybe buying good stuffs for your TSX, love ones, or even yourself...

Im not trying to be a pot stirrer...

-But go to ANY other car board or ANY car magizine and the acura tsx is never in the luxury class...its in the premium class of cars. I love the TSX but it truely is a rebaged honda accord (as we all know). There really is no difference between it and a loaded altima...So please get off you high horse and go educate yourself.

-Someone pointed out earlier about how the 3.5 has identical gas milage figures compaired to the TSX. So once again go educate yourself before you start spouting off stuff making the members of this board look like nothing more than honda-fan boys.

Altima styling: to me it's just can't get any uglier then this... I just can't stand the tail lights. I think I would even settle for dull looking Accord tail lights then this....

Troll much?

The only Altima that I'd buy is the 3.5, SE-R included.

it has the same mileage as the TSX. Nissan makes the best engine's anyway, you can't beat the VQ, only engine to always stay on the top 10 ten engines ever since its debut

i don't know what you mean by "makes best engine", but it hasn't been known for its reliability in the past. I owned 96 Altima and it was junk.

past 2002 after Nissan had their 'shift' even though VQ's been around since '96, I do not think you had a VQ in your altima

I came from Maxima 95 and believe me buys... the V6 nissan engine is one of the best. It's powerfull, very quiet, has a lot of torque and is economical. Very few of these qualities you can find at 2.4 TSX...

And concerning the "luxury class" of TSX... let's forget about it.

a3gus = 8 posts, booger123 = 4 posts. Hmmm, sniff sniff, yep, I think I smell a couple of trolls. Seriously, go to a nissan board if all you want to do is bash the TSX.

I just built the 3.5 on Nissanusa and it was more expensive then the TSX.

IMHO Honda > Nissan

The 3.0 L V6 engine in your 95 maxima is a completely different animal compared to the 3.5L in any of the newer cars. The 3.5 is no where near as smooth, and its much louder and more rough. Nissan lost the smoothness on the new engines. The J32 in the TL is a much smoother engine.

I have owned a 96 maxima, 98 maxima, 2000 maxima, 2001 maxima, 2003 pathfinder, 2004 G35, 2005 G35.

We also had a 03 Altima and it was a reliable car, just not built with good quality stuff. Interior was very cheap and so is everything Nissan has now. I sat in a New Altima and Max at the car show this past weekend and the quality sucked.

Even the new G35 isn't as good as I expected over the 05. Compared to my TL its still a notch behind in build quality.

The 96 Altima had a KA24 Engine 4 banger. 2002 is when the Altima changed bodystyle and got the VQ.

The Altima in any bodystyle does not have a good resale value. Very poor. G35 and 350z are the only cars that hold the resale value in Nissans lineup.

PLUS never buy a nissan new.

their resale values suck majorly (reliability issues recently) not as bad as domestic brands but definitly not on par with honda/toyota.

find a slightly used one if ur gonna buy one. just my :02:

The '07 Altima got a nice write-up in a recent issue of C&D. Seems it's a significant step up from previous versions. A little big for me, but it looks pretty good.

I did do a lot of research prior to buying Daphne, but it is obvious I didn't do enough. I guess I did come off as kind of stuffy, for that I apologize to anyone I may have offended, particularly you rugbybrado , I don't want to make any enemies on this or any other board, as I enjoy it here.

Again, please forgive me for engaging my mouth (fingers) before engaging my brain.

Actually, the Altima 3.5 ifor 2003-2006 s rated at 18 or 19 mpg city and 26 highway. I mostly got 21 in the G35's with mostly highway and some city driving. On a trip the best it saw was 25 mpg.

They do not get as good as a TSX. The VQ has never been known for good gas mileage.

I think most nissan is not so good on gas consumption, except that small nissan ( dunno what's the name). However, in terms of power...nissan, or in particular topic; Maxima has a lot of power. Mamamia, I remember when I had my type R and then drove my friend's 95 maxima it was amazing. Then, I test drove the newer model of both maxima and altime the V6...ck ck ck, it was quite a drive.

But again, I am a honda fan, I always look at honda first than any other cars. Except, if I was looking for diesel engine.
