'04 steering vs '06 steering
'04 steering vs '06 steering
Is it just me (my car), or is the '06 steering much heavier?
I've been noticing this more and more whenever I get the '06 loaners that the steering on my '04 is really light in comparison.
Could it be the tires? stuff loose?

The fact that the car is newer has a little to do with it, but the 06+ cars were refitted with supposedly stiffer suspension control arms that would be contributing to the heavier feel. There may also have been some changes to the power steering tuning.
i never drove the old TSX so i dunno.. but i have the 07 and love the handling.. comparing to my 03 accord it does feel tighter.. when i test drove the new 07 TL (they let me test drive a new car instead of a demo since it was loaned) it felt tight too..

There have been several (brief) threads here concerning the heavy steering. I've also thought that my '06's steering was rather tight--to the point that it would be quite a pain if my car were MT instead of AT. So when I recently took my car in for service, I asked specifically for an '06 loaner for comparison. The steering on the loaner, which, like my car, had about 16,000 miles on it, had the same tight feel that my car's does.
I hadn't thought of the possible difference between '04/'05 and '06/'07. Interesting. Next time I'll ask for an '04/'05 loaner. If Acura intentionally tightened the steering, I think they overdid it.

My 06 has the 'heaviest' steering wheel to turn of any modern car I've ever driven. Everyone who drives my car comments on it. I believe there may be something to it (additionally I have a lowered car with all kinds of aftermarket suspension and bracing) but I really like it myself.

At first, I thought the steering felt heavy (especially after adding my Cusco FSTB).
However, I just recently mounted lightweight Advans, and my steering now feels substantially lighter - almost TOO light to the point where it's incredibly twitchy. Anyone else with lightweight wheels (read: < 16 lbs) experience this as well?

The '06 definitely has a heavy feel to it, but i find it just right... I just came back from vacation and had a Malibu rental for over 2 weeks. the steering was so light i could park using one finger; I also had to constantly give steering input since the dame thing was all over the place.
Man, am I glad to get my beloved TSX back!

Yeah, I figured it might have something to do with the '06 revisions...
Another thing was that a couple months ago, I put in the Aspec suspension, and then I didn't realize that the tower bar bolts were loose. I tightened it, and then the steering felt tight and good for a couple of days, until I hit a freakin pothole which put a bubble in my tire and put a slight bent in my wheel. From then on, the steering lost the nice and tight feeling again. Maybe it's just in my head...

Glad I'm not the only one who thought the 07 TSX's steering was tight and heavy... but I've only drove the TSX once in my life and that was a test drive >_> but it's enough right?
I think my arms would be pretty tired after an hour or so of driving in the TSX if I'm not used to it.
I think my 4 cylinder Camry pretty much spoiled me... the steering is so free that I can fling the car around with just one finger. It took "real effort" for me to steer the TSX around xD

...I personally HATE cars with light (read: no) steering feel. I don't feel safe driving cars like that because it feels like I'm never fully in control of what the car's doing.

Oh well, different strokes for different folks...
The other day I was driving with the window down becuase it was hot and I didn't feel like running the AC. I was steering with one hand and my palm began to sweat. A few times my sweaty hand began to slip as I was turning so I had to use both hands. That sort of reminded me that of how tight the steering is. It reminds me of my old honda prelude. I love tight steering though. It makes the car more solid and firm.
My mom used to drive a '97 Acura 3.0CL and the steering was so loose that it almost felt dangeround to steer with one hand becuase the steering wheel would jerk when you hit bumps. If you wanted to drive with one hand in her car, you had to grip the wheel TIGHT to keep the steering wheel stable. I was acutally put-off by Acura becuase I figured all there cars steered like that. I'm glad they decided to fix it.

Well, it's a speed sensitive steering system, meaning it gets tighter as you go faster, but I think at speeds below 15mph, the steering it a bit too heavy for those days that you're damn tired after work and just don't have enough energy left!
Don't know what everyone's complaining about with regard to the steering in the TSX. For me, the 06 is just right. It has that solid feel of a nice, grounded car.
I am one with the road!

i actually like it myself... iv'e had my '06 for a year now with a little over 17,000 miles on it...recently i took it in for warranty work and they loaned me an '06 with about the same amount of miles...i noticed right away that the steering felt tighter than my car and felt much better...is there some kind of adjustment they can make to the steering wheel to make it feel like that again? i still have the loaner and can't remember if my steering feels the same..i'm curious now and can't wait to get my car back so i can find out...
I like it.....
gives it that nice and tight sporty feel. you feel like you have more control, not like any other "family" sedan.
2 thumbs up to ACURA TSX's....damn i love my car...what will i do w/out her...hehe

haa.... didn't know this thread is still going on after I started it...
I paid a little more attention to the steering over the past few days, actually my '04 is not that bad since it gets tighter at higher speed. I think like some magazine's have suggested, the confidence in the TSX's handling comes a lot from the steering. I actually think sometimes the steering makes the car feel more tossable then it really is...
On a side note, I think the tightest steering on any car I've driven was my '93 Civic. For some reason that generation of Civic has a really heavy steering

u wanna feel the road? drive a lambo diablo, you need thighs like a bodybuilder to push the clutch and arms like arnold to turn the wheel. even worse is the lambo truck they built in 1988, you really need some cojones just to drive that thing in the parking lot. i think it was call a LM2000 or LV2000 i dont remember. on the upside it did have a v12 and would do 140mph.....in the sand.
