***THE 2.5 TL***

Has anyone got a perfect shock & spring setup or NEAR perfect shock & springs set up.....reason why im asking because no-one seems to be 100 % sure on when a question is thrown on here ?

Some are saying use HONDA ACCORD 90 - 97 KONI YELLOW SHOCKS Front & Rear
or use TOKICO ILLUMINA ADJ shocks Front & Rear HONDA ACCORD 90 - 97
And use 04 TSX springs with them with a little mod !!

C'MON GUYS LETS GET SOME CONCRETE INFO TOGETHER AND MAKE IT A STICKY !!!

Also Tokico Blues for '97 Accord. Have them on my 2.5 and they work well. Added plus is that the spring perch is a bit lower so the car sits about 3/4 inch lower all around w/ stock springs.

asking what springs is totally a user related question. It all depends on your driving style. I tried 3-4 different spring rates on both the front and the rear.

Just search dude. i have the entire shit written up for my 3.2. far as 2.5 i have no idea because i dont have a 2.5.

if you like oversteer or understeer or neutral is what it depends on. My car snap oversteers, but the only thing left on it thats stock is the cast iron hub assembly. The rest is totally adjustable and heim joint or poly bushing.

Ive explained everything in more detail than necessary in my thread.

The info from his thread will apply to the 2.5s as far as spring rates and car behaviour go. You'd probably want something softer than his because of the lighter weight of the 2.5.

^ I'm just sayin...

I wouldn't mind myself, but I'm thinking of keeping it a bit softer for when I drive babies around. Nothing worse than hearing a kid scream in your ear while stuck in traffic.

Has anyone got a perfect shock & spring setup or NEAR perfect shock & springs set up.....reason why im asking because no-one seems to be 100 % sure on when a question is thrown on here ?
Before I began, heres my setup.

97 Acura TL 2.5
-------------------------
-2004 Acura TSX front spring part number 51401-SEC-A03
-2004 Acura TSX rear spring part number 52441-SEC-A01
-Tokico Illumina adjustable strut
-Eibach bumper stop.
-Ebay camber kit.
-Toyo Proxes4 225/45/17.
-RonJon Inspire rims 17'

My question is how do you define perfect or near perfect strut or spring setup?
Perfect as in what? Performance, ride comfort, or both?

From my experience, Id tried Ground control with Tokico Illumina struts and Eibach prokit with Illumina. They all rubbed and bump my fenders, and became an inch lower after 3 months. I personally don't like it. Rough ride, bump fender, seems like the spring dont have high enough rate for the weight of the car.
So after a few months, I put them damn thing up on eBay and got only $50 and $75 for them. Wtf!

Then I got the Tsx springs. I did not experience the fender bump problem especially the fronts, and I noticed the ride quality was alittle better.
I was going to try other strut brands for the Accord like Koni, AGX, Tein and the Comptech TSX springs. Ive heard its got a higher spring rate than the factory.
So that can be a better performer. But, I didnt get to because Id rather spend the money on my G35 coupe.

Someone, try the Comptech springs with Koni,Tein, or Tokico and let me know how its like. Im curious. Whatever springs or struts you choose, make sure to get a camber kit with front and rear alignment. Not that the for the rear camber kit, all you need are spacers and an extra long bolt to adjust the camber. Goodluck.

its all personal prefrence.

Any kit you order from ground control direct you can get what ever rates you want.

As far as the rough ride. Id assume its the shocks. Tociko or whatever are basicly shortened stock jobbies.

Ive never had ANY luck as far as satisfaction with tokico shits. They are entry level and sub par as far as perfomance goes. Its basicly a stock shock that wont blowjob on you with shorter suspension travel.

for a better ride id get ground control 550 rears and 450 fronts. they come with like 350s and 280s or some shit. That kind of spring rate is for a strap on dill's innards or a mattress,

Really? So they sell any spring rates I specify, and its a direct fit too? Cool.

Yeah, its all preference. If I can go back, Id buy Tein.

way late response, but as far as it being a direct fit, you need to measure it up to find that out.

And as far as Tein goes, That shit is garbage. The shocks blow sooner than any other shock ive ever used, they are 100% imported as well. That means that when the shocks blow, you need to send them back to tein to get them rebuilt. And its not a timely process going back to japan. Get koni, and ground control. That way all your back and forthing is done in the united states when the shit juices and needs to be rebuilt some day since ITS DEF GONNA HAPPEN.

that makes me think twice before getting new after market shocks... I'm still riding on my stock shocks (Need new ones) with the 2.25" drop Goldline Springs... I've had these for over a year now and it still rides smooth without a lot of bounce... you still get more bounce then if it were stock but my ride is lower and the bounce isn't as bad as other Honda's out in the street that I see that are lowered...

I think I'm going to stick to Stock shocks with Goldline Springs for now...
My shocks squeak like heck when I lean on the car or get out of the car... So I know I need new shocks... I also need a camber correction... So that you need a camber correction kit if you do any kind of lowering type suspension... at least lower then 1.5+" drop...

<~~~ 2.5 TL...

It will but will likely blow out sooner because if the lower height. Some alternatives that I'm looking at are from 90-97 Accords such as Tokico and KYB adjustables.

I have a 98 2.5 and have been doing a bunch of research on the stock vs. aftermarket suspension setups. I am on original everything at 113K with OEM 15" wheels. My plan is to upgrade to the Eibach Pro Kit Lowering Springs (kit# 4011.140) for a drop of about 1"-1.2" then use KYB GR-2's all around. I am partial to KYB since I've had good luck with them in my Pathfinder.

Does anyone have experience with this setup? Is the Eibach Pro-kit drop "really" only 1" or so, even when settled on our cars? I know my factory suspension is worn out. My goal is a "slightly" tighter ride/better braking than stock combined with a sportier look from the drop. I may upgrade to 16-17" wheels at some point - for now will keep my OEM wheels/tires (gotta fix some fluid leaks first!)

Thoughts my good people?

I believe if you use the GR-2's that were made especially for the 2.5TL, then you would only get a mild ~1" drop like advertised. You might get a little more of a drop if you used the GR-2's for the 97 Accords. These are strictly from what I've researched, not personal experience if it helps any.

You should get a little over 1" once everything has settled. It shouldn't be too difficult to convince... the car has been on it's only set of suspension for the last 14 years!

I have a set of mix and match GoldLine springs/Accord GR-2's that I've picked up cheap sitting in the garage waiting for me to put on myself. Just have to find the time to do so and whether to use that setup or not.

Sounds like wrench day to me. I plan on spending a whole weekend soon on my TL with a barrage of fixes/upgrades. New F&R brakes, springs/shocks, engine tune-up, Tranny screen/drain&refill, and valve cover/oil filter extension gaskets.......Whewww - makes me tired just thinking of all that needs to be done.

It's just maintenance, so do it one at a time. I did my tranny screen and rear brakes/hubs last year. I also did the oil filter extension gasket a couple years ago as well. That should be a fun day.
