a 225/45/17 will have a slightly shorter sidewall compared to the 235/45/17

The guy I bought them from said there was no way in hell that those jeep tires would fit in the wheel well but I made it happen after all I live down the end of a very long dirt road and I needed the rubber

Must agree with jrot. There will not be a measurable difference with the sizes given.

that is not a true statement.

45 means the height is 45% of the width.. And the width is 225mm or 235mm

So, if the tire is not as wide, then the height will not be as tall as well. So, the 225's will be slightly shorter and the foot print will be slightly more narrow. The end result would be a lower profile tire and a tad more "stretched" so the tire would have less buldge.. It would be more aggressive. Newer cars with a sport package tend to have a more narrow foot print but the rim will still be wide. So, the tire seems to lean in normally for a stretched look, rather than buldging out giving some rim protection.

235 45x17's are almost stright up on a 8" wide rim. 225's will lean in somewhat, like it is streched and be lower profile..
