Angry Turns Out -- Blown Head Gasket

My lack of heat inside car, and temp guage not moving, etc. was due to a blown head gasket... Looks like I was tricked inot believing the car was running great when I bought it. While replacing the head gasket and doing a valve job, my mechanic found that the thermostat was removed. Well, you live and you learn. Other than that, the car has run fine and now that problem has been fixed all is well with the car. It sure did hurt my pocket, though.

If someone went to the trouble of pulling the thermo they knew damn well there was something wrong before they sold it.

If it was a dealer confront them... or post it in the paper or BBB .. private sale well buyer beware right but still thats not nice way to do business

I hope that you did the timing belt/water pump while the mechanic was in there.

yea, classic way to hide a BHG. Thats why you look at the car when its cold and see how long it takes to warm up and just let it idle and idle after you test drive it. you can also smell the coolant reservoir for any exhaust gasses. Residue builds up on the bottom of the radiator cap also if its been blown for a while.

Was this a dealer purchase or a private seller. Sounds like a ritten deal.

Live and learn as you said, but leaves a bad taste in the mouth. Suck doesn't it?
