Transmission Slip!!!!>>

About 2 times a week, when driving on the highway, I notice that on my 98 2.5 TL My transmission does not go into overdrive. It get stuck into 4th. I notice this around 60 MPH because at 60 MPH the Tach should read almost exactly 2,500 RPMs. When i notice that something is wrong, at 60 MPH it reads a cinch below 3,000 RPM. i try to shift down then back up to 4th, but it still doesn't shift into overdrive. This is very annoying, and it cuts back on my GAS MILEAGE a substantial amount.

Anyone Else Have this problem??? Tell me about it if you do. I'm going to ask a Tech soon what to do. I change all my fluids and do all maintenance regularly. I baby my TL.

Its based upon engine load and throttle position, so something in there is telling the torque converter not to lock up properly.

Hmm. Now that you say that, Last week I did adjust the play on my throttle cord.

I did that because it had a lot of slack. I adjusted it to improve throttle response. Maybe i should step it back about a centimeter. I'll try that and tell my results.

I have a 97 2.5TL that has a persistent failure of lockup clutch. It is apparently a hydraulic failure, but there are several possibilities. It sets a code regularly, and clears the code after a week of driving. The code is P0740. If you have the CEL set, check the code.

good luck
