Transmission **Click**

Almost every time (especially if the engine is cold) I shift into reverse there is a little **Click** noise the tranny makes. Once in a while I can hear it if I'm accelerating and some dumb A$$ pulls out in front of me and I have to take my foot off the gas abruptly.

Anyone else have this? I regularly have my tranny serviced w/ Honda fluid. The last time I had it done I showed the mechanics at Acura and they just said, "Yup...that's a click alright." And that was it. It's been doing this for I'd say over $10,000 miles. I'm not really worried about it, just curious.

Thanks for the info! Hearing that yours does the same makes me feel a lot better. I've own 5 Hondas/Acuras but this is only my 2nd automatic (1st being my '92 Vigor). I have no worries (even less now) because the trannys are almost bullet proof.

As for the hard shifting....almost every Honda/Acura I've driven in shifts quick and hard. (Hard meaning w/ power, rough meaning irregular or....uh...ROUGH!) Mine used to squeal the tires in-between 1st and 2nd when I had my stock 16" wheels on. My buddy who used to be the Chief Mechanic at my local dealer said he could adjust that to make it shift more smoothly. Not sure if he was full of crap of not but I like the tight shifting. It gives you a little extra edge when racing.

I disagree. My brother's '89 Legend, my Ex's '98 Accord, My sister's '96 Oddesy, my ‘92 Vigor, my '96 TL and the ’02 TL Type-S I test drove ALL shifted fast enough at higher speeds to (or nearly) squeal the tires, and all were meticulously maintained or had low really low miles. My

I've had a '88 Accord auto (shifted roughly), '96 Civic (shifted SMOOTHLY) and of course the '97 and '03 TL's.

My '97 shifts roughly only under hard conditions, if I'm gentle it responds gently.

Sounds like you need a transmission flush.

Did you spill soda or anything? A friend of mine had a similar problem and there was a bunch of sticky goo (i ASSUME from orange soda) that had to be cleaned off. After that it was fine.

umm not to my recollection i didnt but I'll give it a good cleaning and see if it continues. If there was a problem it would be hard to switch thru out gears and very often not juz when coming out of park right?

Not necessarily..

There is a little notch in the output shaft's gear.. and it is stopped by a "prawl" when you go into park. This can be damaged if you put the car in park without the parking BRAKE when on a hill.
