Speedometer Problems

Guys,

I'm having a weird problem with my seedometer. It's jumping all over the place. I may be going 60 then the needle goes to 0, then jump around a little then back to 60 then back to 0. It always works from a dead stop but could start acting crazy at any speed. If I have the cruise on and it starts acting crazy, the cruise shuts off. Odometer continues to work. Any idea's on what to check or where to start. Thanks in advance!

my friend has a similar problem. either the wire is loose or the speedometer is broken.

here's the link that ebay sells for about $25 bucks in bidding.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33678

it says 2.5 '97 tl. I'm not sure if the gauges will fit for 3.2 tl...I'm sure it fits. can someone justify?

Thanks for the info

I'm gonna check on that cluster and see if it will work in a '97. Where's the wire that your talking about, behind the instrument cluster or near the transmission? Thanks in advance!

it is probably the speed sensor. I believe it is covered under the emissions warranty

My d4 light started blinking today, I called the dealership and that was the first thing he said it might be, that was before I told him that the speedometer had been acting squirly. I'm taking it in tomorrow. My CEL has been on for a while with code p0401 (EGR insufficient flow) so hopefully they will be able to fix everthing at minimal cost. Thanks for the input!
