Should I buy this '96 TL? (temperature seen in the red two times)

The person selling me this car let me drive it for a day and it overheated to the red zone. He took it back, changed the head gasket, found a water leak fixed that, then brought it back to me.

My second day driving it it overheated again. Also to the red zone.

I have read the overheating threads and right now the guy is taking it to get the thermostat fixed.

I am worried about the possibility of permanent damage already done to this car and the hassle it will cause me down the road. Please everyone give me your 2 cents I would appreciate it greatly.

Oh I forgot to mention the car has 145,000 miles on it and he's selling it for 3,800.

It looks that I'm the luckiest of all (it only happens when I drive fast, for a long time in warm weather with the A/C on) ...

Run far and fast
The owner was good enough to let you be the test pilot- or he would have known it overheats-
Redline once- hurt the gasket
Redline twice hurt the head $$$$$
May not show for 6 months- then it will blow

well the guy had the head gasket and the water pump replaced and he is offering a free 2 month warrenty. as far as overheating goes he insists that the head gasket is the only thing that could be permanently damaged. is this true?

aww. he also had the water pump replaced. he insists that the only permanent damage overheating would effect would be to the head gasket. he's also giving me a free 2 month warranty.

just curious, how much would repairs to the head cost me?

Repairs to the head would give you a headache. Labor would get you alone.

the seller had the heads resurfaced. does this mean the head is now safe from overheating damage?
