Replacing bad starter..

OK so my cars starter craped out on me today. It was fine till 1 PM today, I was at my friends house today, was about to leave for work but car failed to start. At first I thought its battery but my stereo and fan was working absolutely perfect. So now on the fixing side, how much you guys think I am looking at parts and labor. Quotes I got so far..

1> Pep Boys= $197.99 parts+ $383.79 +tax = $657.66

2> Quality auto repair= $240 parts+ labor = $470

3> Independent shop #1= $285.39 parts + $340 labor +tax =$586.79

4> Independent shop #2= My parts ($182+tax) + $200 labor= around $400.

Part will be remanufactured unit, New at dealer is $483.38.

What do you guys think.

Starter repair means the driver side axle has to come off....sorry to hear that. Good luck. Try to bring it to a honda specialized shop. That's your best bet that it will be done right.

#4 is kinda Honda specialist, he has integra's and civic's there all the time. And that is the cheapest one I found.

if 4 is dependable i would go with him... there is a starter sticky from Ken that shows you how labor intensive this job is... so i am not surprised the labor is more than the parts...

So I started my car today morning to take it to mechanic, it started just fine, no noise or anything. I started it a couple more times hoping that things will go bad again but its starting fine now. So should I dump $400+ and take it to mechanic now or not.

Problem will come back. Hope it not gonna suck when you in hurry. There is a STARTER REPAIR KIT ACURA on eBay about 30 bucks. It's easy to replace if you know how to remove the starter. Good luck

Yes, He always have Civic's and Integra's there all the time for engine swaps and stuff like that. He is a preety nice guy, charged me less than listed labor. Listed was 2.9 hours($275) but he charged me $200 and was done by time I told him.
